Sorry fellas I know you probably get asked this a bit.Just wanted to know your experiences with these tyres.Am looking at buying either BF Goodrich M/T's,Coopers STT or Goodyear Wrangler MTR's.
1.How does each of these wear on the bitumen?Which would last longest? KMS?
2.How do they handle in the wet on bitumen?
3.Which chunks least off road?.I'm not an aggressive driver on the rocks.
4. Can anyone suggest better?
5.Anyone know places to get the best deals in the Sydney area currently?Bob Jane has been best so far with all around the $265 to $280

My choice is MT/R
STT would most likely last longer(haven't tried)
MT/R handles wet bitumen lot better than BFG AT (so I asume MT as well)
MT/R doesn't loose chunks easily.
Some people say that XTerrain is possibly better than MT/R on wear,mud and as good on wet bitumen.

BFG M/T will get the best kms on road. Are more slippery in the wet though.

STT had some chipping issues - i'm not sure on details though.

i havn't had any experiance with the others but it mainly depends on what ur driving how fast thewear rate is. I have 285/75 mtr and they are great offroad and on road in all conditions but it looks like i'll only get about 15000'ks out of them before they become useless offroad. that may be because they are on a full time 4wd cruiser tho

MTR's are the go though once they get low like 5mm they aren't real god on the road, though they still perform quite well offroad at 18 psi.
and yes i know its time for new treads and i will buy the MTR's again i got about 50 thou out of them and my mates new BFG mud wont come close to that

Give some thought to a set of mongrels and cheap rims. Best of both world's then with a set exclusively for off-road and save you heaps$$$$ in the long run.

It is a difficult decision but i think that you should really consider the new Mickey T Baja Claws (they are awsome) or the pro comp x terrain (these are better than the mud terrain).
I am about to buy a set of the new baja claws from Mickey T as i think that they are the best value on the market for what you can do with them. They are aggressive but are sensational as an all rounder. Supposidly pretty good on the road too. Some mates have them and absolutely love them.
I was considering have 2 sets of tyres but this ended up being to expensive in the long run.
They are a bit noisy but what aggressive tyre isn't.
I am getting them for touring and for a bit of fun in the bush.
My 2 cents worth anyway.

Radial claws SUCK i got 'em and don't like 'em, bad in the wet in the dry and in the bush, 33"s they are, if your looking for a good allrounder i'd seriously consider the X terrain, better klm's than claws, better on the road and better in the bush, exxy but

(1) depends how you look after them. Estimate 50-60k km for both for me (based on wear so far).
(2) MTRs absolutely fantastic, MT's nowhere near as good.
(3) Both are pretty chunk-resistant. MTR maybe slighly less???
(4) NO - MTR is my first choice for an all-round road/offroad tyre.

personally wouldnt consider mongrels as i am sure all of the listed tyres would grip better on and offroad and be a much nicer tyre in terms of wear and road noise. every tyre ive tried except for my HT's gripped better and even they were close on dirt and gravel.GQ Bear wrote:Give some thought to a set of mongrels and cheap rims.
