Just brought a holden drover '86 softtop, 1.3L, 5 sp, starts up no problem for 300 bucks, i know it's same as a sierra but rebranded to holden drover. Needs bit of TLC to body works.
Main problem is the transfer case stuck in neatrual big time, can't shift it out that space. the owner who sold me the drover told me that it's a common promblem with early models... this true? I've got a spare early model transfer case sitting in the shed atm. am looking forward to swapping it over this weekend
Is it easy to fix the stuck one or too much hassle to fix it up for next time?
I noticed that there's like 5 series of transfer case? am i wrong?
Search for shift sheet, as this is most likley your problem. Basically its a small rubber bush that sits under the transfer stick, and when it wears the transfer jams up and wont shift. $20 and 15 min and your on your way again. As for the series, they are refrence to the rockhopper gearsets.

There is the 1.0L transfer and the 1.3L transfer mainly. There are variations on these, with a 4wd switch etc, but mainly its the 1.0L or 1.3L variations. The 1.0L has approx 12% lower high and low ratio's thant the 1.3L. The series you are refering too is a designation for the rockhopper aftermarket gears, i.e. series 1 ,series 3 and series 4. Calmini, trail tough and other manufacturers make crawler gears too, in tons of ratios to suit all sorts of applications etc. The 1.0L case is popular as a budget reduction for 1.3L equiped vehicles, but does not accept many aftermarket gears. If you are wanting crawler gears, the case to get is the 1.3L case with the 4wd switch, as this will accept all gears (pretty sure anyway ).
