Where to get a used Suzuki engine in Melbourne?
Where to get a used Suzuki engine in Melbourne?
Hi guys, the rings in my mates early 80's 1.3 litre sierra went a few weeks ago.
Are there any places in Melbourne that wrecks these things? Or sells replacement motors?
How much can he expect to pay for one?
He doesnt want to spend too much as the car only cost him $250.
Thanks for your help,
dan

I paid $850 for mine 2 or 3 years ago.dansedgli wrote:Thanks mate.
These import engines - are they straight swaps? My mate doesnt want to go to more trouble than a simple swap over. He doesnt want to do an expensive engine or EFI conversion on a $250 car.
It was a carby engine, efi ones were dearer.
They are from swift/barina type cars that are east west engines, so you need to use a few bits from the Sierra engine.
You need to use Sierra sump, oil pickup and dipstick.
Sierra inlet and exhaust manifolds.
And sometimes need Sierra camshaft, try to get one with right angle dizzy, easier as no need to change dizzy drive or cam.
You keep your old engine, its not a swap over like recos are.

Cool, hope that turbo works out ok for it.LTDHO wrote:Dan, I just rebuilt mine for $1700! Same as what i paid for the car!!
Goes like a dream now
I think my mate would prefer to spend a lot less than that. He wants to get a LWB patrol in the next few months but wants the zook running to tide him over until he saves up the cash.
He goes camping a lot and struggles to put any gear in his suzuki. Its just way too small for the stuff he wants to take. After being rolled a few times, its not so roadworthy either so he doesnt want to spend a fortune.

Only up to a certain year (not sure the year)dansedgli wrote:Are those engines the same? Finding another cheap sierra is a bit hard. I tried looking for one before I bought my GQ.christover1 wrote:Might be cheaper to buy another old zook, or an old swift/barina
I just sold a 86 barina for $400 2 weeks ago.
Later Barinas are based on something German, and are not the same.
And some are only 1.0 litres, not the same.
I believe Swifts are all G series engines, that can be made to fit easily. Some of them may be 1.0's.
Some are twin cam efi, but they aint cheap
So in a nutshell you want a swift or barina with a G13 engine.

If it was a carby 1.3, bingo, it was a G13. If you already have a shot sierra 1.3, then it is only really lamatter of swapping over all the accessories (although this does involve swapping the cam too to get eh right dizzy drive, which is a bit if a PITA)

Some have the same dizzy as a Sierra, as in right angled drive, I don't know why some are different.dansedgli wrote:Why do you need to swap the dizzy's? Is there a clearance issue or something?
The ones that have the dizzy sticking straight out the back, will hit the firewall...Some people cut the firewall, but also the heater gets in the way, too.
They use a different method to drive the dizzy, so can't just change dizzy.
Look for one with same dizy as a sierra if ya worried.
