TRITON GEARBOX OIL

Has anyone tried different oils in the triton manual box to combat the cold temperature grinding and rough changes?

Yeah we have had a few customers with noisy Triton gearboxes and have put thick 80w90 and 75w85 grade oils in with no luck unfortunately. We haven't tried the Castrol VMX80 tho. This is a straight 80 grade oil and works pretty well in most Mitsy's.
ie. I put it in my Lancer and it made a world of difference!

Wouldnt putting thicker oil in agrivate the problem - thicker the oil, harder it is for the syncros to cut through it??

I haven't had a chance to drop the oil but the box has seemed to settle down a bit. Probably needed some time after rebuild to get everything lubed up and oil thinned out a bit. Still a bit of a clanger when cold though. Have had to alter my driving style and take a bit more relaxed aproach to throwing the stick about. I must be gettin old

The proper oil for Mitsubishis is VMX-M - M for Mitsubishi. It is still an 80 weight oil, but apparently it's different.

Not all auto-places stock it, and it didn't work for me. There's also a Synthetic which is supposedly better again. It's either Syntrax or Syntrans, and again, the Mitsubishi preferred version is harder to find - and freakin' expensive! :shock: And still didn't work for me.
