EGT on diesel comp trucks

Post by vn15 »

I don`t have a comp truck, but it is set up like one suspension/engine wise.

Have pyro mounted post turbo and it reaches 500-550 pretty fast and then I back off, but on a stage you can`t do that, so just wonder what`s your EGT like.

Run 15psi and twice the amount of fuel on it. Maybe more boost will help, but a wee bit worried about the headgasket.

G'day per,
Mine normally runs around 500. I can't remember if your's is intercooled. If not this will bring down your temps. Also make sure that the fuel is set properly and a big one that is easy to do is make sure that your intake pipe (before the turbo ie. snorkle ) is large enough to flow the air that your engine needs. If it is too small it will add to your heat problems. A competitor went from a 3 inch pipe to a 5inch pipe and his EGT dropped by 100 degrees without doing anything else to the motor. ;)

Thanks for info Steve

I`ve got a big FMIC and twin thermos behind the rad. maybe get a new PWR type in alloy.

Compressor intake is 3" so have the same size from the filter, large conical KN with a 6-3" ram pod.

IC piping is 2,5" before and 3" after IC.

Maybe the bottle neck is stock exhaust manifold, not enough space to make a new one, (non cross-flow).

Does it stay on 500 deg even when you floor it for a longer period?

Well the EGT went up to around 600 just driving on the highway in the last comp......that's why I had to pull out  Some of the stages I was running for around two hours in low range and didn't see it above 500. I don't have my fuel pump modified yet though so I don't dump heaps of fuel into the motor. If you can get it on the dyno you can adjust the fuel timing. This may help.

Have seen some of the comp trucks on dvds, lotsa black smoke, it so the truck allmost disapears in a black cloud, EGT must be sky high I guess

Given it twice the fuel, around 90cc(equivalent to 120cc in a TD42) so maybe I can`t expect any thing else.

rode shotgun in a marshalls car at the OBC. It has aftermarket roller turbo, intercooler and pump has been modded.
The EGT struggled to get to 500. Not even sure if we got it that high.
Oh and it pumps out lots of black smoke at low revs but loaded up.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
