Sorry to bring up again, but am looking at purchasing another set of off road tyres for when I go 4bying. Currently run AT's on standard alloys when on the black stuff & put on the monoform muddies 275/70/16 on 16x8 steelies, (cruiser offset). (pic below)
Whilst the monoforms have been fine for me, they are a real pig on the road, always out of balance, even though I've had it done a few times. Can put up with it if venturing close by, say Toolangi etc, but as most of my 4wding is in the H/C, 2-3 hrs of teeth vibrating etc on the black stuff is no longer that enjoyable .
Looking at 285/75/16, probably MTR's, but am concerned a little about how much they will rub. Whilst the monoforms are 31.3, the MTR's are 32.8, it maybe too big a change, as I have a tiny bit of rubbing when on full lock. Have had suspension lift/torsion bar cranked etc, but will not be going down the bodylift Rd.
So what do you learned mitshibushi goys think, will they fit without any major rubbing. I know all the cons with speedo/fuel etc. Any advice/suggestions appreciated.
Cheers
Allan Mac

Tyres Again
Moderator: -Scott-
Where do they rub? I've not noticed rubbing on mine, with Patrol offset rims. I would expect 'Cruiser offset to provide more clearance, and smaller tyres more again.
Looking at pics, it doesn't look like your front has been cranked too far - that's the only possibility I can think of...

Cruiser rims will rub because they stick out more. I tried 285 on cruiser rims on mine and they rubbed quite bad. But on correct offset rims (patrol I think) they were fine to the point I can get chains on without rubbing. Rim offset makes a big difference.

Have replaced torsion bar & have cranked it up a little more since that pic. Interestingly, a number of ppl have told me less likely to have rubbing with cruiser rim offset compared to Patrol-Scott- wrote:Where do they rub? Well i guess it depends where it's rubbing. The 285 cruiser ones only rubbed on the front at the rear where the mudflap attaches with the suspension 'compressed' and when turning.
Because the cruiser ones stick out more it meant the arc was wider during turning and therefore hit the flare. 255's on cruiser rims were the same (almost - still rubbed) but when I put 33 x 10.5 (265 width) on the factory 7 inch alloy rim there was no rubbing and is still no rubbing even with a set of chains on the front. I put that down to the Mitsi offset being less.

You're spot on Glen. It is as you stated & after giving it some thought, it is the rim offset causing the slight problem. It really only presents a problem on the switchbacks, so if that means having to do a '3 point turn', so be it. So decision made; will get the 285/75's .NJV6 wrote:Well i guess it depends where it's rubbing. Will now need to do some shopping around for the best price
Cheers.
I don't own a pajaro so i can't talk of personal experience with those vehicles but i wonder.... if you wanted a 33" tyre... would a more narrow aspect 33" tyre help you and stop potential rubbing? If so you might want to consider 255/85/R16. I know that BGF do their MT in this size.
hope this helps
