Was driving through town last night and noticed another sierra comin up the road, so i prepare for the friendly wave, and then as it got closer i noticed it was a LWB, so i was thinkin hey cool another lwb, then as it passed i saw it was a hardtop but could swear there was no line for the top of the tub where a fiberglass hardtop usually sits, on swivelling my head to get another glance im pretty sure i saw that it had a solid full rear door just like swb hardtops.
Now could someone please tell me im not crazy and that LWB hardtops were actually manufactured. If so how many u reckon were sold in australia because its gotta be the first one that i have seen........ever, even on the net.

You can do anything with body filler To the best of my knowledge, there was never a LWB Hardtop, anywhere in the world. There was some funny LWB stuff built and sold in some third world countries, (extra cabs etc) but I don't know about a full length steel hard tops.

The history of LWB hard tops in Australia:
Suzuki did produce a LWB with a factory hard top in 1986. It was similar in shape to the SWB hi roof but was made of fibreglass (or similar). It was a 2x piece unit, the front section had a wind up sunroof. The rear section had the quarter type windows in the top corners (aka SWB hi roof) and a luggage rack. The tailgate housed a glass screen making it 1x piece, it also had a demister. The interior was carpeted and quite luxurious by Sierra standards. The vehicle body colour was only released in either white, blue or charcoal grey. The roof itself was released in either white or grey.
In NSW Ateco sold an imported canopy as an OE product (Fox I think was the maker) from Canada for both the SWB and LWB Sierra (85-87). It came either in white or black and had a window which bolted to the tailgate to make it one piece.

it's more that he thought it looked like a solid hardtop with a rear gate as per a SWB hardtop which is a very different thing than a fibreglass canopy. The ones you are talking about have a much better appearance , look like they should be there, than the Flexiglass challenge canopies which look like a canopy added to the body

Garth who spots for Glenn Dobbin used to have a lwb sierra with a full 1 peice fibreglass canopy it was like an ambulance, the hartop went up from the windscreen and all the way to the back of the car. Had no factory roll bar, instead had a 4 point steel roll bar inside. Heaps of drivers head room. had a one peice fibreglass rear tailgate as you describe. and the join between body and canopy was very tidy. I don't think he ever finished the project it had toy diffs and 2 litre toy engine back in like 2000 or earlier.

Hardtop LWB
I know a guy that built a hardtop LWB. From memory it was a 1 litre LWB body which ended up being a coily from the firewall forward. The section above the driver & passenger was from a hightop drover, as was most of the roof. Back door was drover high top too. Body parts of something like 5 or 6 zooks went into it, it was nuts. It turned out pretty cool though, looked kinda like a little troopy
It all went pear shaped after he rolled it down an embankment after the tie rod came off I think he has someone do some work on the front end and they didn't put a split pin on the castellated nut!!!
I'll have a dig around and see if I can find a pic of it.

cfox, that's actually my Mercedes Gwagen. You're not the only person who thought it was a suzuki.
In that photo it was about midnight, we had been driving for about 17 hours, and it was very very stuck. It took a 1.0 sierra to pull it out.

Hi yes still have the zook you talk about,in about 2001 I pulled all the toyota diffs and supercharged Gemini motor out and replaced it with new diffs and a custom rear steer diff with a turbo 2.6 4speed auto and twin hilux t/cases and hydro coilover suspension with 38.5 tsl sxs it has deen like that for the last 4 years 90% finished it still has the roof you are thlking about.I have just started to bone it out for its 3rd and final rebuild the hydo coilovers are in Chad (team bling) Hilux the diff are sold to a guy building a buggy and I am putting the twin t/cases In Athols BIG Zook all I am useing in the new car is the motor.I will keep the body roof and chassis.I will try to post some photos.stephen wrote:Garth who spots for Glenn Dobbin used to have a lwb sierra with a full 1 peice fibreglass canopy it was like an ambulance, the hartop went up from the windscreen and all the way to the back of the car. I am going to pull my finger out and get the zook on the road so I can use it as a dailey driver and build a full on comp rig,so most of the zook will be used now as it would of been a shame to waste all the work I put into the body and chassis.It will have the turbo 2.6,4 speed auto,lux diffs,38.5x14.5x15 tsl sxs on custom 15x12 rims with internal bead locks don,t now what suspension I will use but the chassis has A frame rear and 3 link pan hard front so may be coils or fox air shocks or coil overs ill see.Can,t wait to finaly finish it as it has been sitting in my parents shed for 4 years and now I have it at my new place we have just moved in to.I have a mustang to do a full rebuild on and then I will be into the zook in about 8 week can,t wait.
