It's not glowing
On sunday my battery died, due to old age, in my 2H 75 cruiser. Bought a new battery last night, put it in and now it does'nt glow. If i turn the key to the glow position the light comes on for a second and the goes off, making a click noise. I think that it is shorting, but am not sure. Anybody else had this problem or now what it is.
had the same problem on the out-laws BJ73. either the timer or the relay is shot, you'll probably find after extend cranking that the thing will fire and blow heaps of chaff. To get past this we used a short length and wire directly from the battery to the glow plugs but only keep it connected for the same duration as you would normally pre-heat your plugs for ie 12-15 seconds. You should be able to start immediately off the key.
This is all your timer and relay is doing anyway which is convenient, this will get you out of the sh1t until you can further diagnose and fix your issue

I just ran a wire through a push button switch and relay in my old shorty. Was still in and wroking when I sold the old girl.

I tried disconnecting the power lead, that goes to the front of the head, and it still does the same thing, so i think it must be the relay.
Did the same thing, just make sure you use a decent switch or you might find it will stick in like it did to me and melt the whole loom, worked no worries the second time with a better switch.Chucky wrote:I just ran a wire through a push button switch and relay in my old shorty. I recently had a similar problemwith the 2H and it was traced back to the glowplug temperature sender on top of the head. This way its a $70 +new sender or else wire it so that you can use a push button switch through the relay.The same sensor for the v6 commodore is only $28.00 but has a different connection on top.LOL. Oh what a feeling.
