Stuck in 4wd

Post by Marvin013 »

Hi all, firstly a great forum.

I have a NJ Auto 3.5 and when out 4wding today it stuck in 4wd H , shift lever won't move.

I have tried everything by the book but no luck.

Some advice would be appreciated.

Have you tried rolling/driving forwards and backwards a few times? I had this happen to me once- the rolling seemed to do the trick- I think this problem is called transmission wind up, from driving on a surface that isn't loose in 4wd.
Meh...

Thanks, tried that... no luck.

I had been in 2wd on the dirt, stopped before a steep climb, shifted to 4wd with centre diff lock, cd light blinked briefly and went out, tried to shift again, no go...

The Paj climbed well in 4WD high but coming down was a bitch!

I wonder if it's in the lever itself. Its a good trick that happens with Hilux's, it'll get stuck between low and hi box and go nowhere.

Does the lever move at all - will it go forward into low box?

If it doesn't move at all, take the ecntre console out and gain access to the top of the transfer box, undo 3 bolts (manual 5 speed) holding the lever in and take it out (don't drop the bolts in....) I might need McGyvering with a bar.

This is all only what I did with the Hilux, unsure if a Paj could do this- anything is possible! Always had a socket and screw driver handy!
