4.7 V8 and 5 speed auto into 80 Series

Post by Red Rover »

I was looking at one option before supercharging. The Lexus 4.7 and auto to replace the 80 series 4.5 and 4 Speed. Has anyone seen it done? I know the 4.7 will fit onto the 80 box, but the 5 speed auto would be better. Also the transfer case. I believe they are different therefore how would I retain the part time conversion. Any help appreciated cause I want to up the anti on the power.

Cheers

I looked at putting the 4.7 in my 80 but the cheapest I could find an engine for was $6500. Auto would probably add another $1000 to $1500. I ended up getting a Lexus 1/2 cut with 4.0L V8, auto box, ECU and loom for $1000. The 4.7 2UZFE is a 170Kw engine where the 4.0 1UZFE is a 195Kw engine.
I'll be doing the swap in the next couple of weeks and will post how it goes.

Nope. 100 GXL & Lexus LX470 has 4.7L 2UZFE with either the H151F 5 spd manual box or the A750F 5 spd Auto box.

I thought the 4.7 would have more grunt. I had a 1uzfe with 35's on another 80series and it was a slug IMO. MMM supercharger looking better if that's all the 4.7 puts out, either that or a 5.7. Certainly the 1uzfe did not feel like 195kw.

The 1UZ-FE is an engine meant for passenger cars and the peak torque horsepower may be higher in the rpm range whereas the 2UZ-FE is meant to be for heavier vehicles such as the 100 series and the peak power production may be at lower rpm's. Do you have the torque figures at certain rpm to compare, etc.?

Are you sure you need more power, or more torque? Both would be the correct answer :P

The 4.7L V8 conversion would be a minimum, however a fresh 1FZ-FE 4.5L with a turbo and intercooler would be better than fitting a smaller 1UZ-FE IMO.

Yes I tend to agree. However I believe some of the problem is that the auto is a gear short. The gap between 1-2 and 2-3 is too great and it needs 4.3 diffs or more power to comphensate in top gear. The 5 speed would fix up to final gear but not including as it won't change the final ratio and 4.3's are too weak as they are only aftermarket gears available, from guys I have spoken to. If I could get 4.3's would solve a lot of issues but I will be pissed off if I start blowing diffs. This is my concern also increasing the power, but the guys I have spomken have not blown front diffs with more power and the auto is kinder on the driveline as well. I really want to make a power gain real soon and need to decide on the right attack. rebuild a 1FZ-FE plus supercharger is about 10K, a V8 5.7 conversion would probably be the same I would imagine but the stuff around with adaptors kits, misaligned pulleys etc is a pain in the arse. We have been there done that. I am prepared to spend 10K if need be.

I just though I would buy a wrecked V8 100 and strip it and that way have a toyota v8 5 speed auto, but not for a very small gain

Your input and experiences is much appreciated
