im still throwing the idea of plasma rope around, now my biggest concern is what stops someone from coming up, unlocking the winch drum, putting it into free spool and walking with 300 odd dollars of my winch rope??? is there anything to do about it? is it unrealistic to keep the rope in the car until its needed??? i figure your meant to unspool the whole lot anyways, and the simply connect it to the drum when needed??? is this rediculous? just cant think of any other way of stopping it....if anyones got something, can you please let me know
yeh so thats what im thinking of doing, even if its when im airing down or something, i just dont see that ill be driving round daily with my rope on the front and especially carparks and the norm, i just wanted to see if anyone had something.... just thought that thered be others with the same line of thinking, maybe its where i love but i wouldnt expect my rope to last a month if i left it on there i think ill be keeping it in the car for sure
yeh thats true, but 'the winching rules' state that your also meant to unspool all of the rope EVERY time you use your winch except the first 5-6 spools, but yeh i dunno, is there not anyone else out there thats worried of losing their winch rope??? i thought there would be as theres no real way to stop someone stealing it....
I was worried about that but as i have a HiMount the free spool bit is too tight to pull with just the hook out. Any way I now have an in/out switch on the front so it is now easier but I overcome this problem by not leaving my car in public carparks.
The rope lasts longer if it is removed and washed after every trip, it isn't that heavy to carry in the back and put on if it's needed in a non 4wd related issue and could quite easily be re-installed before heading out bush. This way you get to make sure your winch is working fine before venturing out bush.
Oh and I think all cables be put on under tension (weight of car on slight uphill) so during a recovery you don't winch the top layer thru a cable/rope that is loosly wound on to the drum, which will cause it to bind and not come in or out.
