lockless rebuild

Post by andrew e »

Finally started the rebuild on the Ex haultech lockless monster. It was rolled, then stripped of its shocks, motor/box and stuff to build the rentals. Motor and box is sitting back in place, and i'm starting on the brakes/wiring etc.

Specs will be

16" race runners
mid mounted 3.9/zf ex 95 disco.
traction control
LSD toy diffs
front/rear axle winches
36 irocs on beadlocked 15x10s
rear radiator
4 link rear
3 link front

Keep tuned

Andy

will post pics when possible.

Can I ask why you are choosing to run IROKS?

If you are doing any rock crawling events, I would be staying well clear of them. I have not seen a more over rated tyre.

You would be much better off on a set of comp spec claws, creepies, or krawlers for any competition work.

Hell...even MT/Rs perform better than IROKS.

im using IROKs because i have some. May change them in the future depending on if i like them. I didnt use krawlers (1st choice) as i already have my beadlocked 15x10s. same thing for mickeys too and cost . would have had 37 boggers if they were available for the $$. will be entering as many events as i can afford, first preference being werock events

Andy.

ps How the heck do i post pics?

Ah, so this is the 2nd incarnation of the lockless - that explains things - I though roc7oy had bought the remains of the 1st...?

Even cooler - are you keeping it the same colour Andrew?

OK, so what became of the lockless (buggy) chassis? One of the "rentals" or the "homeless" buggy? I have lost track...

Sorry for the hijack Andrew.

Jekyll (POS's old buggy) - the 'Roctoy Designfab' buggy
Lockless buggy - now the blue buggy owned by 2manytoys (Shane Homan)
Lockless Defender - the topic in discussion owned by Andrew.
Homeless buggy - now with Troll00 (damien and Case)
One of the rentals - looked after by 80lsy GQ and is the Judges comp car
The other rental - sent down to overkill and now driven by GURU.

Hope thats all sorted :D :D

Thanks Mandy! You are right MC, time to stockpile some mog axles and come home.

Andrew... back on topic... are you keeping it orange??? And are you keeping the offset 3-link at the front? I would be interested to hear your opinion of how it behaves.

It got some paint the other day....after i cut off a hell of alot of bracket off the chassis that werent needed. probley saved, oh, about 2 or 3 kgs :D

Image

naah stuff the tray idea too heavy. the dovetail will return for some comps, then others where i have to cover the wheels... i'll think of something. Anyone got a rear lwb tub laying around?

The front suspension is a 3 link + panhard with the stock 2 bottom links, with their front eyes cut off, and 1 upper link on the drivers side mounted a bit behind where the origional engine mount was. I think if the motor was in its stock location ( about 450mm foward from where it is now) the exhaust manifold would hit. I'll put up some pics later. Speaking of pics in its previous state, does anyone have any? my computer crashed and i lost them all :x

The rear B pilar rollcage mount is mounted to the support for the cab.

Image

because i'm not running a heater, does anyone know if i can use the front top heater hose port on the intake manifold for the expansion tank? if not can i plug it off, or does it rely on flow to cool the manifold?
