Gidday,
I am looking at buying a 1994 dual cab base model triton. However the owner has asked what I think it's worth and I have no idea. The catch is it has a blown motor and is now unregisted for about a year. It's been an agronimists ute so it's done some hard yards. K's are around 325000. Also I can't seem to find a replacement 2.5 DT motor. GEM (Repco) have quoted $4100 for a new motor, but I think to get this one reco'd will cost about $2500 plus. It's snapped a crank.
Thanks in advance.
Andrew

I'm no expert, but I've always thought diesels are ridiculously expensive to rebuild, and I'd be surprised if $2500 will do it - I'd expect it to be closer to the $4000 mark, making the GEM engine sound reasonable.
Price wise, I'd check Red Book for a price, go the lower end for k's higher than normal, subtract more if general condition is poor, then subract $4k for the motor.
Good luck,
Scott
