spotties hinge type moutning on a rollbar.
Hey all, I've seen quite a few comp trucks running what looks like a hinge type system on the spotties across their rollbar. I'm VERY VERY interested in making mine the same. Has any1 done this if so HOW? I've got 4 permanent mounts on the rollbar at the moment, but would chop em off id I have to. Any help would be great cheers!
My mates did his and the lights sit on a piece of angle with dowel welded at both ends of the angle
[weld the dowel in the corner of the angle]
then 2 pieces of angle with a piece of tube to suit the dowel size ,they welded those pieces of angle to the roll bar
[weld the tube in the same spot as the dowel]
it pivots like a gate hinge
make a tab that goes from the roll bar to the light bracket angle and drill and bolt the tab to the light bracket angle
weld the tab onto the roll bar so that the lights are in the level position
do the same as above but you just need to put it in a down position
also weld the 2 nuts on each tab as then you only need a shifter/spanner
to undo one bolt instead of trying to stuff round with 2 spanners and bolts
hope all that made sense plowy

Just buy the HD gate hinge (slip over type) that can be removed as well if you need to.
Lots of these guys run air rams to lift the lights up and lower them down.
Well I'm guessing that they didn't think everyone would carry on like a big bunch of sooky girls over it like they have........
I just welded 2 tabs on the bar and enclosed the end on a piece of angle iron with a flat. I then put a hole in both and used a bolt and locknuts done up fairly tight so it holds in the up or down positions.
Hmmmm, cant put pics up tonight for some reason.
We all know that a pic is worth a thousand words

I imagine you just tighten the bolts back up at either end and let friction hold, same in the up position.
Neat and simple system, an improvement might be another nut offset from pivot centre (triangular washer... ;}) to lock it into position up and down.

if you look closely in the bottom 2 pics near the elec plug , it shows a bolt in the angle bracket
and on the tube were the lights mount there is a tab with a hole in it
when the lights are up the bolt goes threw the tab and locks it down
when you want the lights down remove the bolt and fold the lights down
they sit there buy themselves
