Bent :(

I've bent both my drag link and tie rod in the front of the GQ. It's a 1988 LWB GQ petrol. Most of the 4wdriving i do is sand, or light-medium mud/clay tracks.

Should i just go and buy 2nd hand standard ones, or should i go for the more solid and moddified ones from Snake racing for example??

buy the heavy duty ones, youll never bend them and it wont cost much more then a 2nd hand one from the wreckers. superior engineering do a good quality chrome moly one at good prices

depending on your rod ends it may work out cheaper to buy a set from Climax Industries, these units are super tuff and a lot of people with race trucks are using his gear. The quality would be the same as if not better and he will powder coat them custom for your truck.

I put a superior drag link on mine after I bent the standard one like a banana, didnt cost much more than a wrecker wanted for a 2nd hand one (which as they have fixed ends was probably flogged out anyway )

Who in their right mind would make a solid chromolly tie rod then machine 2 flat surfaces (1 either side @ 180deg to each other) into the bar to stamp "snake racing" on one side and "GQ-GU" on the other???????? It creates a weak point in the dead centre of the tie rod and bent right their on my very first drive with that tie rod on so I took it back to their distributor (TJM) with the slightest of scratches in this spot and not a mark on it elsewhere and asked for a refund of some sort wether it be money, instore purchase, etc. and was basically told to shit in my hands and clap

Come to think of it why would you make a heavy duty rod with internally threaded rod ends anyway. So I went with a superior engineering tie rod complete with externally threaded rod ends and haven't been happier...........been on for just over 2 years of comp work now and hasn't bent in the slightest.

3rds worth a look at as well, make sure whatever you get it has the OE type rubber bushed for flex and no squeeking noises

While I agree with what your saying and do infact see how stamping to flat surfaces is a dumb idea. I got a tie rod for a nifty under the counter cash price. I have given the thing hell- dropped/dragged it over rocks, logs it is still straight as.

Have the 3rds tie rod and Superior drag link on my Hilux. Both have copped a beating and have stood up very well.
