Correct spooling method for synthetic ropes???

Post by BJ40 3B »

I've been reading some information about syntehtic ropes, but i can't find information on the best way to spool it.
What is the best way? Spool it neatly like a wire rope, or spool in a cross pattern to prevent the upper layers to get stuck in the lower layers?
How much 10mm dyneema do you recommend to use on a stock drum 8274?
What's your oppinion on Dynamica ropes

Francisco,

The best way to spool the rope is as you would wire rope. Spool it on with some tension parallel to the drum ends. You can run 40-45M of 10mm without any problems. I run 40M of 10mm and that works fine. You can run more but you have to watch it when it bunches up on one side of the drum. Dynamica is a great rope – many people use it in competition. You need to be more careful on rocks and sharp surfaces than with wire [many use rope protector sleeves or an old bag to shield the rope when pulling over large rock faces etc]. You should also wash the grit out of it say after a muddy run or two [or a competition] as you can cause damage it when you use it again after this.

There are other brands such as Amsteel Blue. I've had no first hand experience with these. They seem to perform well. The biggest drawcard for most in buying the other brands is they are generally cheaper if purchased direct from overseas.

If you wish to know more, do not hesitate to ask.

Cheers
