buying a uhf
where do you guys reckon is good shop to buy a uhf radio around the Frankston area (Victoria)
I think he means Time Plus communications in brunswick.
But the best prices i have found are from Prestige Communication in perth, They deal mainly in internet orders and i have found there service to be good.
http://www.prestigecom.net.au/
They are also available from 4WD shops and even ARB are selling GME electrophone gear at the moment. (because GME had combo deals going that included a free cooler/warmer with every purchase)
Was only for may but here is the link anyway. http://arb.com.au/News/Australia/gme_radio.pdf
Cheers

Hookers are like bowling balls, You pick them up, put your fingers in them, then throw them in the gutter and they come back for more.
A speed camera would have prevented that!
Re: buying a uhf
Telstat in Seaford, Brunel Road are close. I think you may do a better price from some of the mail order places like prestige in WA , but you may not get the immediate back up service.81 rangie wrote:where do you guys reckon is good shop to buy a uhf radio around the Frankston area (Victoria)
I bought my UHF Uniden off ebay and did better than retail.

I would be looking at where you can buy an ICOM 400 pro from, wherever that may be......
I have had just about every brand of radio on the market and I am now using 2
1. Icom 400 pro. Slightly more expensive than GME/Uniden but well worth the money, with far more USABLE features than nearly any other radio.
2.Sawtron. Basic Radio. No scanning, no selcall, nothing really other than tx/rx but one of the most bulletproof units ever built. The sort of thing you would install in a dozer. Quite expensive, ($1000plus) but has not let me down in three different vehicles and a LOT of years abuse. Havent even ever replace a Microphone lead. I reckon it would be the only way to go for a comp truck.....

I take it you mean where to mount the antennae??
Just buy a steel bracket with all the mounting holes for about 10.00..Super cheap sell these and most radio retailers will have them. They fit between the bonnet and the side guards. Mount the antennae as high as possible as you will loose performance if mounted on a bumper bar.
