As far as i know.. its pretty much simple as chasing up pics of buggies you like and measuring to scale and following that up. A number of us would have our own designs and most of us wouldnt like to share.. but more than happy to give ideas/suggestions on how to do particular things to assist.

Hope that helps.
no that doesnt really help.!! my thoughts are that this is relatively new to us aussies. and if it is to become a BIG thing, which i think its growing already. people need to share at least some ideas. thats what AUSSIES do. OK the yanks might be mega secrative. but the sport is already well established there. down here in OZ its not. but im sure there are heaps of die hard 4by nuts like me that run challenge style rigs. that would be interested in building buggies, i know i am.but for someone like me (good mechanical apptitude but no real enginering qualifications) its hard to start from scratch. id like to think that the organisors of WErock want the sport to grow. and im sure it will. but it wont if everyone keeps tight lipped with an I want to win attitude. yeah we we all want to win. but lets not be like the yanks. why cant we be Aussie and share our ideas., who knows Aussie ingunuity might even beat the yanks at their own game. all im after is a basic plan for a tube frame. i can fine tune it myself, im not after secrets from the dead, i realise this is predominantly a yank sport, but hey we can australianise it as much as we like.

AUSSIE, AUSSIE, AUSSIE, OI OI OI
Mate Pete from OPW has a nice chassis for sale it was built by Sam at Overkill the same guy how built his chassis he is winning with now it has a Honda V6 in it there are no links just the chassis and motorwith all the wiring etc.
Good starting point give him a ring you won't build it for the price he wants for it.I think he just wants it gone.

Like Pete said...the only real difference at this stage is reliability and strength of components. And this will improve heaps over the next 12 months.

This time last year, only 2-3 rigs were on comp spec tyres. Now, if you are not on them you are behind the pace. One buggy had dana60 diffs. Now there are about to be 4 or more on them plus Pete's hybrids with Hummer portals. The next thing that will become seen more will be atlas transfers. Right now there is only the ABT running one...but come next year this will change.

Its like any other sport. Eventually the weaker will either catch up or drop off.

Yes...and BeeBee has one is his.

But neither of them have their buggies out on the rocks, yet.

The Firebug, I am sure, will be at the finals, but BeeBee's wont be.

And maybe Pete does have an Atlas...I thought he was running a toyota transfer. Have not seen him use a rear dig yet, but rear steer might negate the need to use it. I have seen the ABT boys rear dig at Bathurst.

Now that will be awesome to watch

You and Tazz have certainly out performed EVERYONE this year. But there are more than a few teams that are not far behind you.

Good luck for the finals.

It's not quite that easy, but that's a good start I reckon. We've been designing my new chassis in Autocad for the past 6 weeks or so, and there's a lot involved to make sure you get it right.

Now have pretty much all the parts purchased that I need for it and hopefully it'll be ready in time to get some practice in before the 2007 season ;)

Well see

At colo park there seemed to be as much US hard core gear busting as the weaker Jap stuff ,
There are a lot more people running cromo stuff now, and some lighter buggy's :D

What hard core US gear got broken?

Adrian broke a tailshaft - that he built.
Pip broke a tailshaft and a control arm mount - that they built.

Thats not hard core US gear.

oh :D, I thought Adrian broke his rear pinion out

maybe having the strong stuff moves the damage further up the drive live :D .

Ok, the strength thing has merit, but I dont see Cal busting stuff,
I see smart driving being of more benifit than a super strong rig.

Maybe most of the smart drivers have got the tuff rigs (at the moment)

Its rock crawling, there are a lot of variables, weight, strength,COG,width, length, traction, tyre size, the list goes on,
thats what I find so exiting

The finals will be good, good to get all these rigs together, I hope some more rigs come up from down here with me

A Ujoint broke on Adrians. It was allways going to happen. we were suprised it lasted that long. It was just one of those things you fit to get it going then it doesnt break first time out so you forget about it. Its being upgraded before the Finals.
