After an extended absence, I am ready to get back to 4x4ing. Sold my genI LWB last summer, so we could clear some bills, build a house, and then import a JDM Pajero in the spring. Finally, the time has come: house is two months away from moving in, got the wifey a new Lancer, and my Paj is winding its way through customs in Vancouver... might see it next week!

Bought a shortie 91 Pajero XRII with the 4D56 TDi, mannie, and 4.88 diffs (the V24wg was never imported into Canada, so mine'll be one of the few - we still have the 15 year rule here, like you guys used to have for imports).

Anyways, can anyone say with any certainty where my RPMs will sit at, say 100kmh, with 33s? I'm going back to the pizza cutter BFG ATs (sorry Frank! ) but 33x1050s this time. I'm hoping I'll still be able to pull the little popup trailer up hills with the little oil burner?

Hello Phil, I've been wondering when you get your beastie
If your tranny (I mean 5sp gearbox) has the same ratio's as the V6 at 100km/hr I make it just under 2700rpm in 5th gear.
With standard 265/70/15 tyres it will be just under 3000rpm in 5th at 100K's.
I have the formulae to work this all out somewhere so I'll try and find it.

If you've got the same ratios as mine, 265/70R15s may be a fraction over 3000rpm at 100km/h.

I read somewhere that the US market used 265/75R15 as standard fitment, which I reckon is same size as 31x10.5R15. This should be maybe 3% better, but still not hugely significant.

With my tyres (basically 33s) 2700 @ 100km/h rings a bell, but it's been a while since I really took any notice.

Thanks boys! Sounds like my revs will be exactly where i want them at our highway speeds, ~120kph... Might even improve fuel economy with the new bigger tires! How can the wife argue with that one!

Now the question is, how will the "power" be (said tongue in cheek, since I'm told 2.5's don't have any! ) Will it be okay on hills pulling a 1700 pound tent-trailer?

No probs - you'll have low range.

Fit a 2.5" Big Bore exhaust from the turbo dump back. More power and less heat build up.
2.5s blow head gaskets, I have been told to check head torques by a reconditioner even though the have angular torque bolts as they
loosen off/settle.
The front pulleys come loose on the key on the crank, may pay to check this as it is common
