I saw some documentation here in Qld to say that the division that manages the pine plantatins for the state forests in brisbane are now saying that you normal permit will NOT give you access to traverse state forest pine plantation. ATM they are only talking about Beerburrum and Kenilworth. The documentation said that they if 4wd's want to drive in plantation area, we should go the landcruiser park. You will have to apply for another specific permit to traverse pine plantations and state the reason why you need to.
Now I don't have all the details yet but apprentantly they aquired some pics from the net of 4wds in plantation areas and were most upset by the images. I certainly know in Kenilworth we need to traverse plenty of pine forests, and there is quite a few in Beerburrum. As I said I don't have all the details but I will find out at the next meeting. It is a strong possibility that the pine plantations are to be fenced. This is one option. The other option that has been tabled and is a strong contender to be put into place is the state forests, particularly kenilworth, beerburrum, mt mee, amamoor are to become National Parks. QPWS was in the throws of passing the managing duties back to DPI for the state forests. I will confirm if this has come thru. I know from meetings I have sat in that QPWS and more extremely DPI want us to NOT use the forest and use Cruiser park instead.
As I said the documentation really fired me up and I will get more info at the next QPWS meeting to find out the details. However we probably all know already even prior to this that ours days have been numbered for a while. They are just trying to figure out how to manouvre us in the right direction

State forest issues with Pine forest

Through my work I drive through plantation State Forests quite regularly. I would think the main reason they don't want us in there is because whatever damage we do to the tracks they (or possibly contractors) have to pay for the repairs. Plus considering they would not be expecting the damage it may put out their expected time frames for certain tasks.
I would prefer to be allowed full recreational access but I can certainly see their point of view.
However as has been said above we were never really allowed on the tracks we like anyway with or without a permit. Even some of the haul roads are not wide enough for two cars!

I have heard of this before and checked with a source in EPA and was told it wasn't happening and I still keep hearing around, about these plantations being sold off (trees only) to oversea companies and them locking them off. I'm trying to find someone with the real facts but my sources are keeping it hush hush!!!
I wonder why!!!!
