MQ to Z car parts interchange?

Post by RMP&O »

I am in the USA, MQ/MK Patrols never sold here. Nissan dealers can't get me parts because the parts numbers are not even in their system. I have MQ/MK parts books and the numbers are not even cross referencing. Forget aftermarket, the trucks were never sold here.

A friend of mine in S.America told me the Z car uses the same clutch slave and MC as a MQ Patrol. We have tons of Z cars here in the USA and parts are readily available on ebay for dirt cheap. But I can't figure out which Z car the parts match.

So does anybody know which model/year of Z car uses the same clutch slave/MC? I woud like to buy the parts on ebay but want to make sure I get the right stuff.

Thanks

Dunno, but certainly the L-series engines L24/L26/L28 are compatible for substitution.

Likewise cams, heads etc are all ok to swap. Z ones or even the Skyline/240K/260C/280C bits should all be compatible.

As such EFI or even turbo EFI off a 280ZX should be possible.

The L24-L26 is a difference of stroke (crank and rods).
The L26-L28 is an overbore.

If you speak to a Z specialist shop they probably would help you out. If not, if you had part numbers for the Patrol you have (after all it MAY not be the same as our Aussie spec ones anyway) then a search may find all.

I wouldnt be suprised if it was the same across all the Zed's and the L28 Patrols.

I have an SD33 not L28.

Just looking to use the Z car MC and slave for the clutch. Not really looking to do Z car mods to the motor since it is a diesel.

I cant think of any other items from a Z useful to me since the truck is 24v. But if I can use the Z car clutch stuff I can save 3-4x what it will cost out of Aus.

BTW, my 83 MQ is a Euro spec ot of Germany so it has the steering wheel on the correct side. :P

I thought the old H series petrol engines were the same pattern as the sd diesel series, Early 70 Homer trucks had h16 to h20 some E20 vans also had this series, Nissan Sedrick “not shore about sedrick spelling” had h20 4 cylinder engines and H30 6 cylinder engines out of Nissan 3.5 ton trucks may also have a clutch that may fit.
I don’t know if this helps.

I have a RHD Patrol in the driveway Kingy....so whenever you make it over here you can drive a Patrol and sit on the wrong side :finger:

Here is links to the ebay Z car parts. Looks pretty much like an exact match to me other than maybe the rod length. Which is easy to get around by simply using my rods which are fine.

Slave; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... AMEWA%3AIT

MC; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... AMEWA%3AIT

I think I will buy them, at this price I don't have much to loose.

For those who care the 280Z clutch slave is a near perfect match to the SD33 MQ slave. The cylinder on the slave is within .50mm for both diameter and depth. Only thing different is the rod, I used my old one so no biggie.

I don't think this info to good for you guys in Aus. because the MQ stuff is readily available. But for me here in the states it worked like a charm for $21 and I had the parts in a week. Truck is back on the road!
