i washed out the engine this morning to get all the power steering oil and crap off after washing i tryed to crank it over it wanted to start but didnt
after opening the distributer cap and removing the roater i discover water all in the points and down inside a bit, after trying to dry it up with towls and the old fan heater in there for 2-3 hours i managed to dry up a fair bit, she turn over but still wont start up ,
as i was trying to turn it over i notice the water evaperating off the lil white block next to the coil is this normal?
also could it be that the coil has finally shit it self????
any idea would be helpfull
thanks
matt

i agree with Beretta, bit of WD40 will help dissapate the water,
also have you checked the obvious like spark, does it have one, is it strong or weak, if its weak try some Aero start/start ya bastard, if the spark is weak and may be the casue of it not running, keep spraying start ya bastard until it burns off all the water,
not sure in the steam off the White block, which i believe is like a resistor, but i do believe they get warm/hot, so steam might be common if wet,

Its a ballast resistor, spray everything with CRC, WD40 , inox whatever, inside dizzy outside around plugs leads connection etc, if it don't go you've farked it, but it should gogo, not the ballast resistor while its hot cause you might get a fright
Wanted: Car trailer or beaver tail truck, let me know what you got
yeah the old man got off the phone to me just before he also reacons crc, wd40 or carbie spray,
i did go through the spark plug and cleaned them up
from what you guy are saying it look like just water in points and dissy
yeah the resistor never seen it steam like that before was new to me
i will go out and buy some WD40 and aero star
thanks guys youve helped a great deal i just prefer to drive the patrol over the 60 seires it just me

I've heard the rumour but never seen it done successfully, tried to reset a banschee rear tyre with lighter fluid, caue someone reckoned it would work, i never believed it and now i know whyozy1 wrote:

I'd never even heard of this before, but faaark me, check out the video. Text says: "If you have a tire on a rim that does not have a leak, but has lost a bead. Get some starter fluid, brake cleaner, or carb cleaner. Spray it in the tire . 5-7 seconds should be enough. Now light a match or rag and throw it at the fluid you sprayed in. After it seats, quickly inflate the tire."
This is not legal advice.
Its no woner I love my diesel
But the CRC, WD40 thing is what I would do too!
Off topic slightly...but does anyone know why WD40 is called WD40?
the WD stands for "water displacement" and the formula that is sold today is the 40th attempt of getting it right! So in saying that its lucky it didnt take them longer to figure it out....else we could be all using WD2678930

ok i tested the points from positive batry terminal to negative coil the tester light flashes when turning it over,
i manage to set up the coil so i could test on my own and found there is a spark arking to the engine so i now know the coil and points are working
so it has to be somthing with the distributor

How much wd did you use ? A light spray is all that is needed ..matthewK wrote:ok i tested the points from positive batry terminal to negative coil the tester light flashes when turning it over,

Also find yourself some di-electric grease (a silicon based grease). Use it round your plug leads around you Dizzy cap etc, will help keep water out in future.

im just about given up on it i think ,
might need a mobile machnic to come look at it iv tryed everything,
iv ripped out the distributor, cleaned it out as best i can put it all back, set points, even check with a light tester both points and coil both work cylinder 1 and 2 i have tested for spark and they both have one
i even set cylinder 1 at the top and set the distributor so points were slightly open
im fucken lost now

"Hello operator, my car wont start I dont know whats wrong come and fix it"
60 + Turbo, 33"s
wellllll after sitting down for a while away from the 4by i got to thinking
only 3 things could be wrong feul, timing, spark, now i know it was getting pleanty of feul and tested for a spark , and like the old man said timing,
i went back to the points i have it set at 50tho i had it set at 55tho still didnt work right, so i used a optus recharge card and set the gap,
then slowly moved the distributor until the bastard started,
when it started a shit load of smoke came out
with a bit of water
just when i nearly gave up just needed to walk away for a few and let things tinker in the mind a bit
