Exhaust Brakes?

Post by Buckshot »

Has anyone installed an exhaust brake on their 4.2?Was thinking about one for when towing the boat. There is a company that manufactures exhasut brakes for mining 4wd's.
Are they effective? Are they very loud? And are they easy to install yourself?
Can you get them off wrecked trucks and adapt them to the ute?
Cheers

you can get these off Toyota Dynas or any other Jap truck. They're a compression brake, traps air in the exhaust making the engine slow down due to back pressure. Personally I wouldn't bother, but might be worth a try, don't expect big advances from it though.

There is also a mob that use to advertise in one of the mags selling kits to do this, I will have a look tonight and see what I can find if you like.
