ARB's Air Locker or TJM's Pro-Locker??

that may well be the case, but isn't the selctor on a Jack Mc external to the diff, (as is a Maxi), and if so, replacement is a lot easier than pulling the diff appart to replace an 'O' ring if it may fail. Granted, the vast majority will never have a problem.

dunno about jack mc but im certain the pro locker is an internal actuator.

OK, what material do both manufacturers use ?
comparing pictures is not gonna give you any idea of the different materials. To get the full answer you will need to ring both TJM and ARB and enquire (I'm sure its no huge secret) but I expect the exact specifications would mean as little to you as they would to me.

but I expect the exact specifications would mean as little to you as they would to me.

If your decision of which locker came down to the difference in cross shaft material the last thing you would want to do is accept the word of somebody on the internet as to the exact materials and their suitability, you would do your own enquiries.

However, I do know that the grade of alloy steel used by ARB is not available in plate form as used in the pro locker. This may be irrelevant as for all you or I know there may be a weaker point in either locker that will fail way before the cross shaft?

did anyone see the big black f250 in this last months 4x4 monthly, a little birdy told me that it actually has Air lockers in it and pro locker switch's considering the whole truck was built by TJM why would you fit airlockers??????

buy it fit it. They both do the same thing. Both have been comp proven.
have a dealer fit it and if either have a problem in the first 12 months take it back get it fixed and then bag the shit out of it on a forum like this but for god sake stop the my mates brothers grandpa's mechanic say's this....... shit.

That pic shows the vacuum actuator that used to be available with jacmac lockers.

The vacuum actuator is not used now, only use the pneumatic one, which is much smaller (for obvious reasons).

The pneumatic actuator is external to the carrier assy, but internal to the diff housing.

In my opinion, the discussion on materials is academic. Both manufactures use appropriate materials.

I doubt very much that jacmac would make the cross pin from plate as Cossie is implying.

IMHO the pneumatic actuator that jacmac uses should be more reliable that the ARB design. And that is the feature that makes it better than ARB.

As for the comments about ARB being proven, and implying that jacmac are not, then they simply don't know what they are talking about.

me... id have to say ARB as they are the only company good for
MQ/Kpatrol front n rear.

however if TJM had one for MK/Q patrols if suss out what is cheaper.
for me apples is apples.

There are now available F+R for GQ/GU so i would say it will come down to price in the end for me , will get some prices tomorrow from TJM and ARB(out of town) and see who looks after me :D

He mounted his under the bonnet , the front locker doesn't do it only the rear , and its not just the vented air that smells , it blows liquid diff oil over the engine bay , he had to reposition the solenoid to try and direct it out onto the ground under the engine bay ;)
Apparenty you can get a one way valve in the air line for this problem i will ask ARB today.

Well i just ordered a pro locker (call me difficult but im willing to be a test mule)
it just came down to a matter of $$$$ as TJM are fitting it for $55-an hours work (i'm removing the diff centre to save labour charges).
Im using the bigger ARB compressor with tyre inflation kit as it is the easiest way to install , wiring loom etc all included.
The locker will be put in on tuesday/wednesday next week when i have enough time to do it all , as i will have started a new job by then and work arvo shift , so can work on the car during the day.
I dont think reliability will be an issue , so thats why i decided to try something different.

Ended up being $150 cheaper than ARB.

I know people were saying let them get a few years under their belts before you trust them , its just me that will be doing the testing.
Besides if there good enough for the 4wd monthly rock crawling buggy , there good enough for me :armsup:

Well Guys.

I have been shopping around and the ARB air locker is cheaper in Brisbane!!

TJM do not seem to want to see there product up here.

So I am going ARB!!

ARB - $1680 with locker and tyre inflation compressor kit.

TJM - $1758 with locker and locker activation compresssor only.

Tyre inflation kit is listed to be $160 more then the locker only compressor!!

AND I AM GETTING IT CHEAPER???????? :P

Im fitting eveything bar the actual locker unit(removing the diff centre for them) and all up it is costing me $1499 including Big ARB compressor and tyre inflator kit.
I'd talk them down some more ;)

Well ive got the pro locker in and running and guess what???...............................theres a problem :bad-words:
Funny thing is its the ARB compressor that has the problem , when i have the compressor switched on it cuts in every 10-15 minutes so i thought "must have a leak".
Gave it a spray with window cleaner and found the tyre inflator adaptor leaking (despite using a sh*tload of threadtape) so i tightened it up and presto no leaks.......or so i thought
Sprayed too much window cleaner on and it went onto the compessor reservoir body , and started bubbling - the damn alloy housings porous so now TJM are getting me a new housing.
Anyway the locker works a treat :armsup:

Is TJM getting you a new housing or ARB? Are we talking the housing on the compressor?

Yeah TJM supplied me with the ARB compessor and because its brand new (been in a week) and leaking , they are getting me a new reservior for the compessor.
Wonder how many other ARB compressors have small leaks through the alloy casting like mine does :?:

I run 2 pro lockers in my 105 series and have gave em a hiding with no probs I have even smashed 2 sets of ring and pinion gears in the front and put a nice dent in the pro locker but it still work fine

I did have a pro locker in the rear of my old 80 which I broke (was when they first were released) but if only broke course I turned it on while I had one wheel in the air spinning it wouldn't disengage after that but TJM fixed it under warranty no questions asked now the 80 diffs are in my zook and I have a ARB up front which I bought 2nd hand the guy I bought it of drove very hard but never had any probs with the arb locker so my zook has a pro locker in the rear and arb up front both do what they were designed to do

so arb vs tjm its all horse's for course's

yeah and it still works finenew ring and pinion and away we go the pro lockers are tough as nails :twisted:
