Locker = upgrade axles in a Hilux or not??

Post by LuxyBoy »

When installing an ARB locker in a rear solid axle Hilux diff do i need to upgrade the axles :?:
If so which is best or do i just get the cheapest :?:

$399USD =$531AUS Sky Manufacturing Birfield Eliminator Kit (don't know what spline these are :? )
http://www.sky-manufacturing.com/
or
$645USD = $858AUS 30 spline Lonfields
http://www.longfieldsuperaxles.com/

Does anyone know the website for Haultechs and what price they are :?:
Kind Regards,

You dont have cv's in the back, you have solid axles and you wont need to upgrade them.

If you are talking a locker in the front, you still wont need stronger cv's unless you are running bigger tyres (35"+)

Both your links are refering to the axles for the front diff housing.

In the rear stockers should be fine i give my lux plenty of right foot and haven't done 1 yet with running 35's. If running any kind of locker in the front i'd upgrade. I have done 1 stock cv and 1 profield looking into the sky eliminator kit or a set of longs, a mate has a set of longfield cv's in his and can't seem to fault them only running 27 spline which you can use your stanard axle not 30 spline with 35's and he thrashes it. However if you want to blow cash where it doesn't really need it check out about half way down the page. http://www.superiorengineering.com.au/p ... category=7

If you want the best available for a Toyota front end, get the 30 Spline Longfields. You won't be sorry!

If you are going to run 35's or 7's and lock the front be it airlocker or lockright you will get very good at changing them over. Every time one lets go it flogs out your axle seal 8 bucks or so from repco so spend the money and save the time and money in the long run and go the stronger option. mate with the longs in his turck snaped the shorter of his front axles just the other week that shows you the strenght of the longs so i'm looking at getting a 30 spline set in a little while so PM me if your interested in getting anything. I find my front locker helps a heap better than the rear becase all your weight is in the front once its over the back just gets draged up or over. Another thing is look at moving your front diff forward to minimise the amount your wheels hit the gaurd my ute is 2 in cab lift, shock hoops and the diff inch and a half with 3inch offset rims and touches a bit when the wheel is right up. With this mod it also requiers a shorter drag link or high steer (the better option) and longer front tailshaft to stop it falling out and breaking something as it flys around.
