Do you think I could get this motor to fit in my U.K Sportrak?
Having read on various forums that they have been fitted to Hilux's, I had been studying ebay for a cheap car to pop up.
Out of the blue, one of my mates rings me up and offers me this car for £100!!! He took it in part-ex against one of his cars and thought I might have a use for it.
82 thousand miles from new with history but no MOT. Engine is sweet as a nut and everything works including the air-con.
I've done a bit of measuring and it will go in, but I would have to use a divorced transfer box and this might make the rear prop very short.
Does anyone know if the Hilux or other 4x4 Toyota gearboxes share the same mounting pattern as the Supra?

I think getting the engine to fit into the engine bay is the easy bit. The problems I can see at the moment are:
Sump and oil pick-up will have to be modified to work at extreme angles.
Viscous fan will have to go because of clearance and electric rad fans installed.
Battery will have to be moved.
New power steering pipes will have to be made to suit the Daihatsu steering box.
The manual Supra gearbox will have to go because it is just too long, and if I did keep it I would have to change the Sportrak cable clutch to a hydraulic system..
I'll need to fit a lager capacity radiator for the engine and this is a problem because I fitted front winch as close to the radiator as possible so that I didn't spoil my approach angle.
Exhaust is on the drivers side and might get in the way of the prop to the front diff.
The engine is heavier so I might need to get uprated torsion bars.
I will have to fit an uprated fuel pump.
The braking system will need modifying to suit the new performance.
The list goes on

Thanks for the help and support guys.
It might make a good drift car as it does slide quite well, but I'd rather stick with the Evo thanks.
It will be loads of work to fit the engine, but I really fancy the idea of having something a bit out of the ordinary. I've also got a complete Range Rover EFI sat there as a donor car for my other project, and that would be far easier to fit in the road car.
I might be better selling the Supra on for a profit and looking for a later spec Supra TT engine to put in the other car. Now that would be fun!

7m - GE , or even the 7m-GTE are boat anchor motors. Chronic head gasket blowing, and rev like a old truck diesel with fawk all compression left. Go okay, but heaps better options available without issues. Weigh too much as wel and large motor size. On the other hand - the evo = super . Very drool worthy.
Just between me and you, I actually really dig the Megatwon, but if anyone asks, I'm going to shitcan it as much as possible! :D
Sorry if i'm upsetting you all with my good luck and fantastic taste in vehicles.
I managed to get a set of Portals last night as well, so this little project is finally coming together.
Has anyone got any links to vehicles modded with the 7M motor or should I clear off and ask in the (dare I say it) Toyota section?
I cant wait to get the welder out now.

Wow portals....
Unimog or Volvo C303s?
Is the rear diff pumpkin in the centre or offset?
Where did u source them from?
If running Volvo's are they the fast or the low speed ratios?
Would be great if u're here in Malaysia. Quite a number of Rocky with portals and 1JZ or 7MGTE setups.
Unfortunately they are not documented and owners are more interested in whacking the trails rather than being a forum whore.
Haha.
Have fun in the Toyota section with questions.
I still say build a drift monster argh....
Just curious how's your EVO 6 setup like?

My RIG sucks big time.
The Evo is an RS2 model. It comes without ABS and AYC and gains front torsion LSD, Viscous centre LSD and a rear plate LSD. It is lighter than a GSR and is fitted with the big Titanium turbo and quick rack. The shell has a few more spot welds and a few extra brackets to stiffen it up a little.
My modifications are:
Ralliart ECU,
Uptated con-rod bolts,
APEX-i AVCR Boost controler,
Walbro 280lph Fuel pump,
NGK iridium plugs (heat range 9)
HKS Racing Suction Kit,
HKS SSQV Dump Valve,
HKS 3"Downpipe and de-cat,
APEX-i 3"Cat back exhaust,
Lower suspension brace,
Recaro SR front seats.
I've done the twin plate clutch and lightened flyheel thing, but i put a standard clutch back in as Sara my wife runs it as a daily driver.
It was dynoed at 375bhp and 330lbft at the flywheel running 1.5 bar of boost. On a run it still returns 24mpg, but kick its behind and it drops to low single figures!
Evo's in the Daihatsu section, whatever next!

Then i shall also start a Nissan thread on the Daihatsu forum.
Haha.
I heard the RS2 doesn't even come with ABS. Are there any extra goodies on the RS2 compared to the GSR which is like a "civilian" spec with AYC and aircon.
My tortoise ride is a Nissan Pulsar GTi-R....
Doesnt' move at all...
Oh btw how do u find your AVCR so far?
Seems abit fiddly to setup. I'm running that too.
So the engine is still stock?
Impressive it can cope with so much boost.
Wow running 1.6 bar, i assume that would be around 320 on the wheels?
Yummy.

The RS2 has air-con not climate control and it has the Colt interior, not the Recaro one as they assume that you will throw it away when you fit the Rollcage. They don't come with a rear wash wipe and thinner glass and very little sound deadening to help reduce weight. It doed have electric windows and mirrors and it has the hier GSR gear ratios rather than the super close RS box. Its a less is more rallycar for the road kind of thing.
I really rate the AVCR. A bit fiddly at first, and in learn mode it does overshoot the target boost quite a a bit.
Once set it manages to hold boost far better than other controllers I've used.
Check this out for a reading. How do you think I managed it? It was in the Evo by the way.

Huh i didnt know the long stroke 4G63 could rev so hard?
I would have thought they dont like to be reved higher than 7k rpm.
I wonder which changes direction better and feels better planted.
The AYC cars or the one with proper lsds.
Is your car easily adjusted on throttle?
For the AVCR did u just set the desired duty and boost and let the thign decide itself?
Or u went on and adjsuted the boost/ duty rpm specific individually.

Your correct, they don't like reving much past 7K. Power on my car tails off at 6850rpm.
The above reading was made whilst I was racing a Farrari 360 Spider.
To cut the story short, I'd out dragged it a number of times, but he still wanted to play?? Anyway, I was getting a little big headed about it and wasn't concentrating on my driving. I went to shift from 4th to 5th and got 3rd.................Bang..............paddle clutch exploded and it stripped third gear! The Farrari gave me a two finger salute and drove off into the distance.
I still managed to drive the car home though.
With the AVCR,I set the target boost and guessed the start duty and made sure learn gear was enabled and let it sort itself out. We had a play with the duty on the dyno but couldn't get a better boost graph than the AVCR had managed on it own. Thats plenty good enough for me.
My car is very easily adjustable on throttle. Too easy in fact. You spend most of you time sideways. The RS cars feel grippier than the GSR(AYC).
I find that the GSR feels like you are about to crash and then you just sail round the corner like you wanted to. At least in the RS if you feel like you are about to crash, you probably will.
