question about MQ models and flywheels

Post by Brendan-s »

About to do the 5psd swap into my 82 diesel shorty, and we're planning on a drive-in, drive-out swap-over. Shafts are all lined up (am planning on doing the swap on a weekend, then measuring the required lengths and getting them made up on Monday), new clutch kit's sitting on my desk, getting a new rear main seal this weekend, etc.

The gearbox is an 85 petrol 5spd. I want to find a flywheel to have machined up and ready to go straight in to save dicking around. Are the flywheels the same on all models or model-specific? Does anyone have one they want to sell me?

According to my Jan 86 parts book the Part Nos for flywheels are 12312-C6000 for the P40; 12310-C6800, -C6802 & C8700 FOR THE SD33 and different again for the L28 which also has a different one for the automatic.

When I put a 5 speed ex diesel into my P40 I had to shorten the main shaft and change the pilot bush from 3/4" to 5/8" ID. The OD was the same at 15/16". The clutch splines on the shaft matched up with my original clutch fine.
