Bigger brake booster for Hilux.
Anyone know what larger booster fits onto a 91 model lux?

Yes i have an 80 Series (non ABS) on mine and it rocks. The best mod for added safety
The only place that would do mine was All Brake and Clutch over at Rocklea in Brisbane.

Pretty sure he is referring to M/C- if you get abs M/C you'll have very poor brakes. Your hilux M/C will bolt straight up to 80 booster.Gribble wrote:Cool, does it have to be non-abs?

Hi there stumpy, if gribble doesnt want it send me an email stephenkelly@optusnet.com.au and let me know how much you want for it, my brakes let me down a bit especially with camper on back also as mentioned above is yours off a non abs and also will it require a kit prior to it been fitted. As said above I presume these things bolt straight in no modifications required eg pipes etc??? Will the vacumn pump on the back of my alternator have enough in it to give it good vacumn??? Booster = Big roung black thing ?
Just need to run the booster upside down. If you get the ABS master you need to seal the extra ABS brake lines.
I just bought both together
Works a treat at any rate.
You will also need to make/change the link to the brake pedal. That is what the brake guys told me they did anyway.

i have a 93 hilux and have very poor brakes, with doing what you have been talking bout, will this improve the brakes..
Mine went for rego and it failed, i took off the vacume hose, cleaned it out and then itr passed, the problem is thy are still shit.
Have plenty of brake pads and brand new fluid
Any suggestions

Im new to this thread also, so please bear with me!
New M/C is master cylinder? which is the big round thing on the fire wall or is this the vacumn thingy? M/C is can also suggest is the reservoir thingo that you put the fluid into right? Excuse my technical ingorance.
So, if we bolt up a 80 series or whatever bigger M/C, then we get better brakes responce? With my 33s and fully loaded tray, Im struggling to stop the Lux down a long steep incline, fading brakes and strong smell of burning brake fluid!!! Will this upgrade fix this problem??
Also, does it need to be engineered? or can the brakes centre give it the big tick??

Yes the v6 4runner has a twin diaphram booster and bolts straight on.I put one on my LUX along with the master cyl about 10 years ago it had 80s calipers and vented discs and it stopped exellent even with 39'' tyres.BadLux wrote:dont the v6 4runner brake boosters fit and are alot bigger to??

Big round thing on the firewall is your brake booster which your brake master cyl bolts to, and has the reservoir on it (where u put the brake fluid). With the bunning smell, that would be to do with the brake fade - running slotted rotors should help with that or even go to slotted and drilled rotors and good quality pads. When was the last time you changed the brake fluid? Bleed all new fluid through the lines as it is hydroscopic (absorbs moisture out of the air) the more water that is in there, the lower the boiling point of the fluid, another factor of brake fade. Go with the cheap option - replace the brake fluid. If the vehicle is fitted with abs, be sure not to get any air in the system as it wrecks the abs unit and they aint that cheap from memory. It is recomended that you change it at the longest interval of 2 years. Another thing to help prevent moisture in the fluid is the condition of the rubber seal under your reservoir cap.V6XtraHilux wrote:Im new to this thread also, so please bear with me!
