found out that my 18r in my hilux is running very rich. when i start it it spits out a heap of crap out the exaust .(oily stuff) and is ussing heaps of fuel more thana usual 18r so is heaps.

its a down draft weber with a pod on the top. i know where the screw is that leans and riches it but just dont know witch way to turn it.

any advice muchly appreciated.

the screw you are refering to is the idle mixture screw. this will only alter idle and progression circuits mixture. to adjust lean - turn screw in, to richen - turn screw out.

as a hint turn screw in until idle smoothness drops then back it out half a turn, check idle speed and timing, and adjust until all is good. just make sure that the idle circuit isn't blocked and fuel is not getting sucked through the venturies. the large circle thing in the middle of the carbie.

hey check your plugs and pcv valve for clear breathing,are the plugs wet n black or dry n crispy biscuit colour?they should be if not .im running a weber off a 2 litre escort on my 22r and shes perfect been messin with the jet sizes and idle till spot on and gone full circle back to original sizes wanted to lean it for economy but it just made her use more when a hill required it and lost out on range /revs open the top clean her out and check the jets arnt clogged new filters( i use two in line as backup ) and clean air filter too.
