Warn Hi Mount mod

Post by gone fishin »

Has anybody got any pics of the mods they have done to their Hi Mounts, mostly looking for a pic of the main brake/ clutch shaft where the circlip groove is, Have heard about removing the circlip and drilling and tapping a hole in the shaft for a bolt and washer setup.
Similar to the brake lever bolt and cupped washer.

Have a read of the winch bible:

Depending on the age of your highmount it can be either fully hardened steel or tempered on the outsides. If it is anewer model it will have a hardened shaft which will need to be de-hardened before it can be drilled and tapped. If it's an older one (like mine) the shaft is not fully hardened and most engineering places can do the mod for you. Anyway they drill and tap about a 10mm high tensile bolt, machine up a spacer to hold the brake in place and bolt it in.

I just welded a bolt onto the end of the shaft, didnt even pull the thing apart. Leave the circlip in place and tensioned the cap up so that it just takes pressure off the circlip
