Only one I've found so far is the 'Gunyah' they sell at TJM.
$800 for a 2500 x 3000. Seems like a lot for some canvas and a few braces.
Are there any other brands and how much are they?

Apparently they have some at Came-Apart, oops sorry, I mean K-Mart at the moment which vary depending on where you are from $199 down to $99.
The Cheaper price was at Newcastle, and the dearer one in Canberra.
They mount to either a roof rack, or have 4 very solid vacuum seal suction cups to mount to the roof, and 2 poles are included, but would need to add another two poles to get the best use out of them.
I can't supply a photo, but there was a photo of one extended, at another forum site. They aren't huge, but they'd supply a workable amount of shelter, and quite frankly, at that price, you could buy one for the side, and one for the rear, and have a very useable amount of space.

Just today I was looking at the Kmart one, if the same as mentioned above it is total rubbish, made of the lightest fabric same stuff as $20 dollar tents. the awning is only around 1.2m wide with fabric wings. Would suit someone in an Audi with a couple of racing bikes on the bumper and some bright leotards hangin in a window .

BCF have a passable one (for the price -just! ), bit crap but at least it would have some UV protection.

I suspected as much, but haven't actually been able to get in and look at one, only having seen it in a photo on another forum.
But for the price, and the number of times I'm likely to use it, I'll still go have a look at one. Any of the serious ones are outta my league until I get the much higher priority engine problems dealt with on my Patrol.

Snowy River rug Co next to the BP in Mansfield does great one.. Darren Mc had one on his troopy that was THE shit in the up in the snow on Mt Skene.. only $250-300 for it too.. not sure if they still do one.

So you are saying that they buy their canvas in Sydney, ship it to Cape Town, South Africa, manufacture it there.. and export to their dealers ...

I find that VERY hard to believe.. not sure who told you that.. but I have been to the factory in Cape Town (it is where I was born and lived till 23yr) and seen their rolls and rolls of canvas..

This one cost me all of about 80 bucks, is 2.5 by about 2.5m has half walls on the sides, has withstood hailstorms and has so far lasted two years of use.


I can give you more info if you like....just couldnt be ar$ed typing at the moment

Well, rightly or wrongly, we put one of the Came-Apart versions on layby today (only cause with $770 for a new alternator last week, and the waterpump to do this week, I didn't really want to fork out even as little as $169 in one hit just at the moment, lest the wife complain).
Total coverage of 2 x 3 seems the same as the BCF except coverage is the opposite being 3 nose of car to tail of car, and 2 side of car outwards. And rolls into a solid case, not into a zippered bag.

The other advantage is being moveable with suction cups, can be put over windscreen to roll out over engine bay for emergency repairs if break down in rain (which murphy's law dictates is the time you're most likely to have to stand over the open bonnet fixing something)
