suspension leaf spring

Post by benjamin78au »

Hey all, thinking that my springs are a little stiff ( hmm i jump on front and car doesnt move much maybe an inch or 2) Thinking that the springs are bound up. I heard that you can use a screwdriver between the leaves and put grease or something, and it will loosen it up. Otherwise do i just pull the load springout and put extendend shackles in about 40 mm. The vechile is a 91 serria with dobinson 2 inch hd springs, looking at the receipt, i thought they were only normal and would of loosened up by now. been 3 years. and dont carry much weight these days.
I threw it in general, as , it more about suspension in general then suzuki. But mods can move it round if needed.

leaves

Post by benjamin78au »

yeah , is it as easy as removing the spring from car, laying it flat, so there is no pressure on it, then removing the bolts that hold it together, then remove the lower / short spring or is it the 2nd, then put it all back together ???

YEah , i thought so about the hd, getting a bit older i willing to mod things to get a nicer ride.

No need to remove the springs dude. Just jack the car up by the chassis, undo the u-bolts, and your springs will be relaxed enough. Then undo centre bolt and remove the 2nd leaf. Which is the best leaf or leaves is a bit trial and error.

if you do remove the spring seperate them all and clean them up with a sanding pad and then coat them in lubricant. some say grease, i use molylube, which is a aresole spray on film that drys and is as greasey as pimply faced teenager.
