At last i've got a set of Portals! :)
Last night I managed to negotiate myself a pair of Portal Axles for less money than an ARB diff for my Toyota axles.
They are from a Simca Marmon(French Unimog Copy) and come fitted with 10.5xR20 XL Michelin radials on steel wheels. They came with 6 wheels, so I have 2 spare and the guy threw in all the steering gear and the torque tubes and driveshafts.
They will get fitted to my Second Sportrak instead of the Toyota axles. That means that I can fit the Yota stuff in my daily driver. Just as well really as I spat the front diff out last night on little more than a pebble!!

Well, I drove for over 13 hours to pick up these bad boys.
The trailer had a blow out on the way home, and I've managed to put my back out whilst getting the axles onto the trailer.
They are massive.....and I mean massive.The photos don't do them justice.
When I got back to the workshop, I had to lean a couple of the wheels up against the Sportrak that they will be fitted on.
They weigh in at 38 inches tall!! Good job i'm going to be ttubing most of the body.

Have either of you got any links to websites about portal axles Rockys or in my case Ferozas? It would be nice to see how others have done the conversion.
The Simca axles are quite cheap in the UK as everyone wants the Volvo C303 axles as they are an easy swap onto a Land Rover. The Simca axles are far heavier, and even make some of the mog axles I've looked at seem lightweight.
I'd would have hoped to have one of the axles dummied up underneath by now, but my back is a mess, and the axles are still on the trailer.
I've still got a tube rear bumper, rear winch, 31" Fedima Siroccos's (simex copy) and a welded front diff to fit asap as my other Sportrak is getting a feature in a UK off road magazine and they want to photograph it quite soon. Worst thing is, I can't even put my own shoes on at the moment, let alone throw diff at trucks.

that was connected to the feroza axles. and just have the chassis rails.
i think u said u got all the links, so from what ive heard u have to work
the car to fit the diffs. apparently its easier this way?
since you got the links i reckon u get the axle, and all links etc. and
place them were u want it and make bracketry after that.
refer to how the yanks fit them to suzukis, and other small cars

Thats pretty much how I'd decided to tackle it. Cut off everything and start from scratch.
I think that the position of the axle will dictate where the engine can sit rather than fitting the motor only to find I have to chop up the sump to stop the axle hitting it.
Wheelstud to wheelstud, the axles will stick out 10 inches each side of the narrow track bodywork........Looks like I'll be fabbing up some arches then!
I will extend the wheelbase to help with prop angles and it will give me a little more room for the transmission. I'm after 90 deg aproach and departure angles minimum, so I may bobtail the rear body to save on the damage.
I am still undecided on what engine and transmission to run. It's really easy to change the diff offset as the portal units have the same fitting front and rear. That gives me quite a few options. I wanted to go for a big power petrol motor, but that may give me reliability problems when its up to the mirrors in water. A big turbo diesel might be the way forward, but I'm still unsure.

now that is a widetrak! never seen portals on a zuki here in the states, that there is some mad shit!
i'd go with an injected earlier model v-6 or v-8, easier install,2 stage coil overs on the front, 1/4 elliptical in the rear,3 link rear with wishbone top link, f-350 springs, 4 link front, gonna be a sick rig! oh yeah, lots of TUBE!
