WHO OWNS A GQ/MAV TB42 AUTO?

Post by MEX »

I do and I'm not happy with how it runs.

I'm not sure if I expect to much from my vehicle (89' SWB MAV) or not so before I spend more money I am looking to go for a ride as a passenger in a same spec vehicle to observe how it runs, how the auto changes.

I'm on the south side of Brisbane (Forestlake) and am looking for anyone who can help me out who's within a couple hours drive.

I can be contacted by PM or at ian.fuller@volvo.com during the working week.

Cheers Mex :)

I have the LWB, 89, Ti Model, Hi-Roof GQ Patrol.
4.2 turbo diesel, and apart from staying in "power" mode way too long after it's decided it needs to change to that mode, it's fine with shifting.
Takes off like a scalded cat too if you want it too (but pay at the bowser)
However, I can't very well offer you a ride in it unless your in Canberra any time soon.
It does however overheat something chronic on long hill climbs. Despite having upgraded to a 4-Core Aussie Desert Cooler Radiator.

Watched Birdy competing on the weekend with a turbo petrol, that has a auto now. That thing flew and had no problems bagging up all four wheels. He has spent abit on the auto to make it take 200+Kw's though.

has to be a fix

I am sure that the change signal is controlled by a switch, the must be a way to manipulate that switch (or make it manually controlled) or replace it with something that allows for different change times......

you could make it hold gears a little longer by adjusting your throttle position sensor. If it's too far back, it changes throught he gears too fast and you need to put your foot flat to make it change back gears.

i have no real info on it sorry.
the guy i spoke to about it couldnt even show me a car to testdrive.
and wasnt realy very clear about how much it imporved the shift etc

ive had kitted autos in cars b4 and they are great if done right
but one auto mechanic given same box as another will make a far superior box out of it.......... same as motors id guess

so i vote someone go do it n let us kno
