gq intercooler

Post by mattlux »

does anyone know what size can fit behind the grill on the gq without to much chopping, what size inlet and outlet works best for lag and which inlet and outlets are best both on left side or opposite, and what do people think of air to air rather than water to air, what size piping works best and where do you run the piping to make it as short as possible

get a tape measure and check then get on to a ricer site and find a suitable bar and plate cooler to do the job, should be no more than $400 less if you search
If the above post did not offend you in any way please PM me so I can try harder!!

Mattlux, the problem with all these generic chinese I/coolers is they are so thick it's impossible to fit them in front of a GQ and retain the A/C and grill.
There's an intercooler from a Pulsar Gtir on Ebay at the moment that may fit the bill, from memory they are thinner than the chinese ones and being a Calsonic core they are a quality item. They also have the smaller inlet and outlet tubes. Originally these were a top mount cooler but lots of ricers changed them to front mounts with good results. Check it out at:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... %3AIT&rd=1
If you did get one of these and needed any welding on it to modify it, I could
help you out if needed.
Regards Andrew.

Hay andrew, are you able to make custom intercoolers as I need one between my new twin screw supercharger and inlet of the stroker chev. :?:
Gunna run 2 air to water intercoolers with pump, one across the grill and the other between the supercharger and inlet manifold. ;)
NOW ABLE TOO SAY WHAT I WANT WITHOUT FEAR OF LOOSING SALES.

thanks andrew but puting a front mount in, i just would like to know what sizes fit and what mods you have to do, i would like to run a/c but not a priority, i will be chopping my grill anyway because running a high mount with tube bar, can anyone help me with what size they have used and how much trouble was it to fit in and weather they have opposite outlets or both on same side

600 X 300 X 75 Bar and plate, remove bonnet brace, cut the back out of the grill, bend ac tube to clear IC. Few other things got shuffled around and it still not finished
Your inlet pipe should be the same size as the outlet on the turbo, the outlet of the IC should be the same size as the inlet of the manifold.

Cheezy, what I've seen of fitting air to water intercoolers between the s/charger and inlet manifold is they are simply too small to be efficient there really isn't a lot of room there to fit one. The centrifugal blowers are much easier in this regard as essentially they're a belt driven turbo.
Harrop do one on their supercharged LS1/2 engines but I would really like to see some before and after air temps I suspect there isn't too much difference after the i/cooler.

If you want something thats going to work and dont want to pay the price of safari !

Try sandy at aus4wd racing he builds custom coolers for gq and gu and they are front mounts with out any problems for your aircon. Hecan do all the piping for you at a very reasonable price.
