sd33 - pistons

Post by Lawrence »

Some of the sd 33 pistons are 3 ring and some are 5 ring. Is there a difference in performance ? Mine came with 3 and is rebuilt with 5. Noticed on one site, that sd 3 had compression of 20.8 in earlier mq and 21.5 in mk, why?

3 ring turbo'ed motor, 5 ring NA-motor. Don't see why you would use one in the other motor...unless a NA motor is turbo'ed. Lower compression is for the turbo'ed motor, higher for the NA-motor. Turbo came in both MQ & MK series. MQ is turbo'ed and MK is not?
