Hilux 3.0 diesel questions

Post by -Mick- »

3 Questions....................

What year did the 3.0 come out with injection? Or did they have both injected and non-injected at the same time?

Also I understand they're not the strongest in the bottom end but is it safe to fit a turbo running around 10-11 lbs? Or is that stretching it.

Finally would the injected motor make a better candidate for a turbo? Or is there not much difference.

This would be for a tourer/ med duty rig so a latish model around 01-03.

I'm guessing your meaning the 5L-E with the electronic fuel injection. It came out in september 2000. I'm also interested in how they go with a turbo as I haveone im mine.

hey thanks  If there's a decent gain to be made with these over the older 5l (I drive one at work and its nothing special) I'll look for an 01 no earlier

assuming you mean computer controlled or not, the 5L-E has more power stock however i suspect it will be harder to turbo as you will need to get around the ECU.

a few things I've found out today to answer some of the q's above.

The turbo kits come with a fuel pump that tricks the ecu somehow to get around that problem. Don't know anymore about it that's all I could find.

Also power outputs from the inj and non-inj are damn near the same standard..... and the same turbo'd as well. All the power figures I can find say 70kw/ 190nm stock becomes around 95kw/ 260nm turbo'd for injected or not injected.

I'd go the not injected if there's no benefit having it

firstly....no such thing as non-injected deisels. they are all injected. what you mean is ecu or non-ecu. ecu meaning computer controlled.

a quick google shows kits often come with a boost compensator which is an addon to the pump which would work fine for the 5l, just not sure what type of pump the 5l-e has.
