Gen3 Patrol conversions
Hey all,
This is for a mate who is thinking about conversion.
I know a bit on these has been covered before but I thought there might be some more info/parts out there available now maybe.
He has a GQ Ute with 2" body lift and a diesel in it at the moment.
Wants to put a gen 3 in and maybe even turbo it later!!!
Money is less of a prob than it would be with me but a lot of it he will prolly do himself.
Just wondering a couple of things like can he put one of these up against a turbo 400/ or 700 or would he have to use the later model auto.
Also what other major mods would have to be carried out.
Any info at all even on the motors etc will all go a long way to help make decisions.
Cheers
Brian

you can get all the stuff you need through Marks Adaptors... but the GENIII is a fair bit more expensive to put in. If you browse through their web site, you will see whats needed..... i went the 5.0 litre engine because it was cheaper to do, plentiful parts
There is no "I" in Team, but there are 5 in Individual Brilliance
more expensive due to the electrics? or?Patrolden wrote:you can get all the stuff you need through Marks Adaptors... but the GENIII is a fair bit more expensive to put in. i think there is more electric adaptors.... not too sure. wouldn't hurt to get a price from them for both kits. I was sure the GENIII kit was about $400 more.Shadow wrote:more expensive due to the electrics? or?Patrolden wrote:you can get all the stuff you need through Marks Adaptors... but the GENIII is a fair bit more expensive to put in. I think bru21 used the Nissan auto.Bartso wrote:i would say the turbo 400 would be able to cope woth the power bru has done this conversion
I was going to put a gen III into a hilux but lost interest.... it is a lot of $$$ I don't have. My motor is up for sale if he is looking for one.
My approach would be to run on straight gas- no emissions parts needed. To do this you will need an MSD "dizzy" (control box) and alloy inlet manifold or get the Edelbrock package for $1100 complete. Put the gas carby on top and away you go.
To run the EFI you will need all the usual sensors/ cat convertors etc plus the engine management computer will need a retune (on a dyno).
From my auto research the t700 is a weak box, but you can buy some seriously built ones for $4000 from Wholesale autos (Vic). The 4l80e is bigger and better box used on bigger US trucks if you can afford one.
The Nissan auto is supposed to be very strong, Rodney at Wholesale autos sells an extreme valve body for $900 ish but you will also need new adaptor of course.
I am trying to convince him to put in a 350 tpi or something like that and then mabey add one of these later!!!! fuck yeah

thanks bingham
the hardest part is the headers they sucked.
the conversion costs diy about 10k no less but i did mine properly.
wiring is too easy, time consuming but easy, and is not a reason to dismiss the III over the 5L. marks kits costs the same.
it farking hammers 300kw mafless tune.
weight saving alone justifies the conversion out with the 330kg tb42 in with the 214kg genny.
single turbo better than twin see c.a.p.a. but you would be mad to pass up the blower for $3999 complete. nice and simple.
