GQ Water pump: Genuine Nissan, other brands, or electric?
GQ Water pump: Genuine Nissan, other brands, or electric?
About to replace the water pump in my GQ, and have rung the Nissan parts centre and got a price from them, and they can order one in, or I assume I could also try places like Repco to see if they have an equivalent part.
If it were you, would you go with the genuine Nissan part, or try other brands?
Secondly, many of the 4WD magazines advertise electric water pumps that don't run off the engine, and supposedly therefore give better engine power, and also have greater cooling capacity than the engine mounted ones. Has anyone tried these pumps? Do you recommend them? etc.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I got one from Burson's (around $60-$80 from memory) and have had a couple of trouble-free years from it now

I picked up a "Marlowe" one at the time when Supercrap bought out Marlowe stores here in Vic maybe 3-4 years ago and they were selling all Marlowe branded cheap. At the time I got it for around $30 from memory and it's been going fine ever since.
The one I bought was built by GNB who make a lot or original equipment waterpumps.
Regards Andrew.

Mine on my TD42 died. I replace it with a 2nd hand item that was in good nick, well it lasted 6mths. Which was just enough time to save up for a new one. Think the avg prive I got was abotu $130 after going everywhere. Ended up with a Nissan item. For approx $127 (i think). As Bogged said lasted 15yrs the first time.
Oh and it came with gaskets and stuff.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
Ouch, Nissan here wanted $160 and some cents for one.
Looks like Genuine it is. Which was my preferred option anyway, but thought I'd at least see what people thought about the electric versions.
Thanks for the suggestions peoples.

Bruce, I'm pretty sure the pumps are different but the viscous coupling bolt pattern is the same between RB30/TB42/TD42bogged wrote:I think AWILL will popup here, but I think he measured up a VL Commodore one with a TB one at one time... think it was VERY similarlexi wrote:Is TB42 pump the same as TD42?
