hiFrankenyota wrote:Have a 83 lux with VN series 2 T700 auto, what would be the best set up for torque / power without having a drone.
Was recommended pace maker headers 2.5" pipe and tri-flow muffler in a single system.
Is a cat converter really needed? [ except for rwc ]
Forgot to add V6 3.8l
cheers
Matt
if you remove the cat you usually find the you loose a bit of torque i would sugest u leave it alone
with the system you can run 2.5" as long as you run a very large str muffler but to reduce drone you should go to a 2.25" tail this will not reduce power and if needed ad a resenstor in the tail

you could go up to 2.5" with this and use a larg straight through truck muffler in the front (m24250) and a good resonator in the rear(bm444)
this will give you max power and sound
expect to pay about $400 with extractor fitting

you can remove it if you can handle it a bit louder

Hi Ross
great feed back, keep it up.
i hope this hasn't been covered already (too many to read all)
I have a 94 sierra and i cant get the extractors to seal properly to the head
i think i may have warpep them in the last water crossing
Can i do anything (short of replacing the extractors) such as thicker or
different material gasket?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks in advance Pep

this depends how bad the are bent
put the face on a flat surface and check the face plate
you can always get a hammer a tap down the high spots or tap up the low spots to get it close then use a new gasket with a bead of ultra copper sealer on each side of the gasket around the ports if this fails you might need to take it to an engineering shop to get the face machined
good luck

Ross i have stripped the exhaust manifold bolt and was wondering if you would be the right guy to take it too to get the hole in the head rethreaded? also how much would it cost for you to make and install a custom exhaust from behind the muffler. just having a few issues at the moment with the tyres rubbing and i need some new shape tail pipe to solve the problem.
Cheers, Calvin

I haven't read the whole thread so if this has been asked sorry.
I have an Isuzu 4BD1 3.9L 4CYL N/A Diesel in my Rangie. It is currently running the standard 3.5L V8 exhaust from where the Y was back.
It's pretty much shot so what would be the best thing to replace it with? Will probably keep the manifold.
Cheers

Hey Ross,
Ive had a few cars done by you previously, a turbocharged white EB being one if you can remember back to early last year. You were interested in the exhaust manifold.
I have just recently bought another turbo EA and it has a 4 inch exhuast from the turbo back to the diff and 3 inch over the diff. I dont think the cat exists either :(
There isnt a lot of clearance and the exhaust tip looks terrible. Would you recommend going to a smaller size exhaust from the turbo back, I am chasing 300 rwkw. My last turbo ford made 310rwkw with a 3 inch system. Would this have been restrictive if I was chasing more power? 300 rwkw would be nice to have again with the new car.
I also have an exhaust leak which Ill need fixed shortly so Ill bring it around so you can have a look.
Thanks mate,
Dan

SWB mav. Some mods.
how is everyone this morning. any way my question is.
is there going to be any ill effects from removing the rear, say 1/3 to 1/2 of the exhaust system and the only muffler on that system
I have just done this to my SWB MK Patrol 3.3 turbo diesel, i was hoping there was going to be a muffler up closer to the engine but there is only one big one. i removed this section as when 4wheeling it was getting pushed in and caught on stuff slightly and restricting flow. now all i have is a straight pipe that ends just before the rear wheels. i havent noticed anything performance wise good or bad. but the sound is obviously louder and you can hear more of the turbo whisle.

dude,
got a 93' turbo'd 80 - Need a 3" mandrel setup to the rear diff crossover and then twin 2" out the back. (1 down each side V8 style. I have a 3" dump pipe with flange about 12" down to mate to. Want to take the exhaust inside the chassis rails behind the engine (have body lift to accomodate this.) and use at least 1 3" flexi for vibes. The turbo is booty fab top mount so the dump points straight down and currently has a 2.5" system following factory lines.
Price? timeframe to do the job? Thanks.
