Ford maverick??
Ford maverick??
Hey all,
Just picked myself up a 1993 ford maverick, 5sp, 220k's, 2 owners, serviced every 5k's, sliders, arb bullbar, owned by a diesel mechanic. For $9,500
What you think?> Good buy? Average buy or did I get ripped? I looked around for a while and this thing seemed by far the best..
Oh and it was owned by the bush firebrigade before hand which apparently was a good thing according to a few mechanics as they keep their vehicle in prestige mechanical condition (cos they don't want the thing shittin itself in a fire) I don't know about this.. But I mean it presented great, no panel damage what so ever, straight as ever and ran like a dream
I haven't actually purchashed it yet as I haven't left a deposit but the guy said he'd hold it for me until tommorrow. So I'm not obliged to buy it

A speed camera would have prevented that!

Re: Ford maverick??
If drum brakes are an issue for you ...I would identify the exact fire brigade unit that owned this vehicle and get onto their mechanic...ask him the history of the vehicle and was there any reason for the drum brake rear end..plus its service history. Check the build actual year with the fire brigade . I almost bought a 96 Patrol that had been an insurance write off and it had been rebirthed with an 88 body.BadLux wrote:Hey all,

Mine's an '89 base TD42 Nissan with drum brakes. However, the second owner bought it from a Ford Dealer when it was 18 months old, and the Ford delaer had decided to dress it to look like a Mav (but left the Nissan Badges - go figure!).
Are you sure yours is genuine Ford, or dressed to look like one. Also, did you check the compliance plate for the vehicle age? It's not a new body on an old chassis / running gear perhaps?
Does anyone know if the chassis number gives any indication / verification of age?

There was a neighbour who had an tray/ute , it looked like the model before the GQ as it had square headlights and a different grille, leaf front springs ,Maverick badges on the guards and a Ford Badge on the grille. Tricked up or first of the Mavs.bogged wrote:dont think there were factory Mav Utes.Beastmavster wrote:I think I've seen Mav utes... but cant recall any that late a model.
So was it a true Mav..?????

One good thing about the drum rear is that it is slighty wider and the axles are a give away item. Ive got a set you can have for free if you pay the postage.
Also the whole housing needs to be changed if you convert it to disc. Not just the axles etc.
