Marks 4wd adaptors do a dyna truck gearbox conversion for a hilux to go behind STD motors that seems to work well, a friend has one behind a turbo 2.8 diesel running 14psi of boost.
He blew 2 STD gearboxes, then fitted the dyna box, and it has survuved so far. It bolted in fairly easy, although his truck does have a body lift, im not sure if that would make a diffrence though, as the dyna box is a bit bigger than a STD one.
I couldnt see it being to hard to adapt to a 5 litre, im sure marks have seen it done before.

box
go a v6 4runner box had one behind a chev for about five years gave it heaps only blue diffs there was one on ebay i have a few v6 chev engines 3.8 and a 4.3
i was goen to the same conversion to the same truck the auto will fit in to tunnel. only cutting need is to fit transfer gear lever in its new postion.the marks dyna kit is could but would be cheaper and less work to fit and auto.
my mate is running the 5lt and 700auto in his surf. also runs a low stall convertor works realy great.
the hilux will take the pain of the v8! we run a mud racer with worked 400 chev small block in to a 700auto and hilux gear driven transfer, never had any problems.
im goen with the v6 and auto just because it a smaller motor, no dizzy and no cooling issues because you can fit a big rad in the front with a himount winch jammed iin the crill.
remember to try and leave as much room as can aford between the dizzy and the fire wall because to do the points is no a 5 minute job when you cant get in there. the cap could the fire wall when give shit also.
id use a 5lt out of vp just cause the wiring is a lot easyer to use.
the vn/vp auto have manual linkage as well better for mud.
the electic boxs will shit them selves if they get caked in mud.
run the bigest trans cooler you can fit.
hope this helped.

no worries mate thats what we're here for.
with the engine mounts you should cut the toyota shit right off and start a again using v8 holden ones! there stronger and cheap.
you should also drill 2 holes through them and but 2 bolt in the are about 5mm to long.
this is so when you are in low 1st and ya boot it, the motor jump out.
get your self a VT v8 starter motor as the a sort of sealed.
if you don't run air con shift the alternator up. the realy hate the mud/water.

im running a inj 5L in my 85 lux with a th700, marks adaptor and a std lux transfer, never had a problem, goes great. just make sure u get an early th700 (vn/vp) as these are a hydraulic box where the later ones are electonic (a lot of wiring and headaches to get them to run properly).
if u want i can sent u some pics of mine when i get some time.
