Found new play ground

Post by MissDrew »

Only about 20 mins from the centre of Albury, on private property.

Finally went out there yesterday arvo after having the owners besting me for about 2 months. I didn`t think there would be anything worth while out there. Well wasn`t I WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Found this gorge with a flowing creek in it. Had to make a track down a ridge line to get into it then drove up the creek from there. I was the only rig there and it took me approx 3hrs to drive about 150mts. Had about 4 water falls and ends amount of TIGHT twisty sections in it. Almost smashed both front guards and both doors about 6 times but manage to get through with no damge at all. In one spot if I didn`t allready have a dent in the passengers guard I would have one there now.

Ended up having to winch twice while in the creek and then twice to get out of the gorge as it was pissing down with rain the whole time and everything was wet and slippery. The 2 times that I winched while in the creek were most likely drivable by gasing it to try and bonch the rear end up, but I simply didn`t want to waste my rear drive shaft (it was hard against rocks) while out on just a sort arvo drive, plus I didn`t have a spare or any tools with me. Which would have made it allmost impossible to get out of the gorge with the limited time I had.

Lost count of the number of times that a Q78 dissappeared under water.
I have got the whole lot of video but not digital. But will be going back within the next month for a whole day with a couple of other 4x4s and a digi camera.

Would have to be up close to some of the hardest driving I have done. Pitty it was getting dark or I would have stayed longer. Or if the wife wasn`t ringing me me and saying dinner is reading and you had better bring the boy home so he can have his dinner.

Its allways the way, you find the really good stuff when you don`t have the time to play fully

One thing I forgot to say was that if I had anything other then a single cab tray I would have gotten loads of dents. Like if it wasa ute back it would be trashed down both sides even if it was bobbed.

Basicly my tray is scratched from the front to the back and that wasn`t by choice or not caring.

Hard

While in the creek the water made it harder but not as much harder as you would think. The main reason the water made it harder in the creek was because you couldn`t see how big the holes were under the water. This creek flows year round I think.
But the wet made it really hard to get out of the gorge.

I didn`t even get to the hardest spot as it was getting dark and I had to get home so that my 2 year old son could have dinner.

About 30mts up from where I winched out of the gorge was a water fall that was verical and about a foot higher then my bonnet then just after that was another one that was allmost verical but about 3 times higher then my rig, but this one has 2 huge bolders at the bottom that I don`t think you can fit between

I would be very surprised if any 4x4 could drive from where I started to the top of the last big water fall without winching, even if it was 100% dry. but man I would love to see somebody giving it there best go :D

Guts, what ever happened to gutsquishers? still a club?

You said it is private property, but is it always going to be available for you to drive?

Gutsquishers is still going, its just that everybody has just had kids, bought a house, building a new house, gone over seas, rebuilding rigs or building a new rig (I think that covers everybody) so not much 4x4ing has been happening lately.

Yes this place is private property and yes I think I`ll be able to make it so I can go out there allmost when ever I want, I will however only ever take 2 or 3 other rigs out with me at a time and no more often then say once a month. I might even go to the extent of giving the owners something like say $200 a year just to keep them on the good side. But what ever I do I`ll be trying to keep it avaliable to me. This place is just way to good to let go.
