By Pass Filtration.

Can anyone supply me with any enlightening info on these systems, and where they can be purchased in Australia.

I'm particularly interested in the filter that uses the humble dunny roll.

Anyone heard of it ?

Have a look at a bypass centrifuge instead, these are just as good as a bypass filter, if not better. You can buy them new from Mann + Hummel Australia, or get one from a wrecked TD5 land rover.

2 Emails from Frantz Filters (sales@frantzfilters.com.au) regarding my 2.8L Diesel Hilux:

Hi Brad,

We only have two sizes (single and three element versions) at the moment that could be applied to your vehicle, one of these (the 3-stacker) is overkill. The single element unit comes in a kit form for $295 and will guarantee a factor of 4 extension of oil life. At the moment we have a special price on offer for $245. There are some additional fittings required to suit your engine as the thread on the engine is different to that on the fittings in the kit. So for $255 we will include the additional fittings (T-piece and adapters). Add freight and you're away. The question is where is 'up here'? QLD, NSW or NT? We don't yet have dealers in those states.
Replacement elements are sold in packs of 4 for $15.95. We can include one pack without additional cost of freight. I have attached an order form for your convenience. If you can give me a delivery address I can calculate freight.

Regards

Matt

Hi Brad,

Yes I am aware that the guy in Brisbane is an FTA lad. Unfortunately I don't have a fitting diagram for that model. This is something we are working on across the various brand/models of vehicle. If several of your friends are interested in purchasing these filters then I'll give you a sliding discount; $245 ea for 2 units, $235 ea for 4 or more units (& element pack at $11 ea for all cases). Pretty good eh? Also, freight to QLD is $18 per kit. If I know how many sets you wish to order I can review the freight costs and try & combine them all together to cut the costs for you.

As a rule of thumb the kit usually takes between 1-4 hours to install depending on the type of vehicle (petrol or diesel), model, etc. The diesel Hilux takes about 1-2 hours based on reports from other customers as far away as yourselves. The first thing to do is locate a mounting point for the filter (fire wall, unused mounting points on manifolds, spare battery locations) and this depends on how many after-market accessories have been added to the engine bay. Filter dimensions are approximately 25 cm tall x 12 cm in diameter (plus allow 5 cm for the clamp handle). You can use existing lumes to anchor and route oil lines about the engine bay.

There is an additional option for returning the oil and that is using a specialized swivel fitting that is placed in the oil filler cap. Installation of that takes 15 minutes and makes installation overall very easy. These cost $25 ea. No discount on this item as it's a costly import.

If you have any other questions just ask. Otherwise I'll await your decision on your friends, etc.

Regards

Matt

glacier filters is the name of the company.
oil cleaning centrifuge.
bout 150mm diameter and 150mm long, looks like it is meant to bolt up to a flange for the oil return though which isn't there. The other is slightly smaller

Since they are mainly an OEM supplier they don't have a lot of experience with aftermarket. Let me know if you don't hear from them in a week or so and I will chase it up for you.
