Have a look at Lextreme yes, lots of info there.
You need an R150F gearbox (V6 4Runner) and a Lexus V8 to Supra Turbo adapter kit from somewhere like Dellows or CRS.
Check mine or Twisty's build threads for lots of info at 4wdm forum. It's hard to keep typing all of it out each time we're asked
Pros: Power, Sound, V8, Performance, Sound, Better Economy if driven normally, Power, Sound.
Cons: Costs $ to do, even if you can do most your self, though all conversions do.

It all depends on what you can do your self, how much you want to spend on extra bits (like cheap exhaust or good quality,) how much you can get a motor for, do you need an R150F box ($1000?) or have you got one etc.
Expect about $2k for the motor and all the bits (ECU, AFM etc)
$1300 or somewhere there for conversion 'kit' (gearbox adaptor)
$ for labour for someone to physically mount the engine
$ for sparky to wire it (use Sideshow Performance http://spw.starkie.net/ )
$1000 ish for good exhaust
$ for engineering
Unless you can do alot of fab work, don't expect a whole lot back out of $10k i'd say.

Nem has pretty much covered it all......it's deffinetley a conversion worth doing.
My swap originally came in at about $6000.......but I'd be at around or just over $7000 now and I did a fair bit myself. If you current motor is in good condition, selling it can knock a fair chunk off the bill.
Both Nem and I tried using the std. radiator, which copes ok in some circumstances, but really isn't up to the task. So budget for a decent radiator ang get a quality water temp gauge as well.

If you're looking for someone to fit the motor my mates at HiTech4x4 in Penrith did an awesome job on mine.
My truck will be there for the next month or so while we do the SAS and get it ready for the Trials so if your around your welcome to come check it out. Be warned though, once you hear it you'll apply for a credit card

But mine is only in the beginning stages. I have bought 90% of everything and start fitting in 2 weeks.

My 2c worth:
I have just done a series 2 1UZFE conversion to my FJ73 MWB cruiser, with the vacume actuated transfer case my costs are as follows:
96 model Toyota Soarer halfcut with p/s pump and altenator $1600
Dellows adaptor kit with the works $1100
80 series radiator second/hand $145 at my door from S.A wrecker
Exhaust 2.5" mild steel 2 mufflers using standard headers $600
Twin BA falcon thermos second hand $55 (ex taxi wreckers)
Wiring diagrams 400 pages downloaded from web $FREE
Actually wiring it up 4 days in the shed for me and a coupla mates $SLAB
Parts sold of halfcut that weren't needed +$700
"Still more parts left to sell"
Air box setup, combination of factory cruiser and soarer one $70
Actually fitting the engine 1 day in the shed with a couple of mates $SLAB
Misc bits and pieces $200
Don't be fooled into subbing the work out to other people, with a little know how and some good mates you can achieve a hell of alot without parting with much cash. As you can see from above my whole "QUALITY" conversion owes me $3815.00 then subtract the $700 i made from selling bits and the whole thing owes me $3115.00 and my original budget was to try and do it for $3000 so all in all i'm really happy.

damn.
Evil 73's overall pricing is not bad. thats the sort of budget i wa thinking but anything above $5g will be out for me :-(
Any other thoughts for a little more power plus I'll be on dual fuel (either modding the stock V6, putting a holden supercharged V6, etc)
thanks

Engineering won't cost me squat as my cousin is a vehicle engineer and we have already discussed the issues surrounding engineering. As for sump mine is already a rear sump motor so also not an issue. I have done a heap of homework to push the price down and do it within here or there of my budget. I would expect with putting the finishing touches and "MAYBE" a little bling factor it should come in under $4000 easy.

Yeah well ok thats a bonus for you but is your cos going to do a free report for others? I not think so. So that still makes it a min of $4500
BTW how did you get a half cut for that price? cheapest normaly is around $2200 and for a 96 model soarer cut it should of been up closer to $2800.
Unless you are lucky enough to know people in the write places this is a $5000 min conversion.

Guts cos my cousin has only just registered himself as a VASS engineer he is doing deals for friends and some discounted rates to get his name out there, If your at all interested you can have a look at his site, its called thealteredstate.com.Guts wrote:Yeah well ok thats a bonus for you but is your cos going to do a free report for others? As for the halfcut my original quoted price was $2600 so i had to do some serious talking and bullsh*ting and eventually i nailed these wreckers for the $1600 price. It took me 3 days of talking on and off to secure this deal and cash helped a hell of alot.
I don't disagree with you that on average this kind of conversion will atleast cost the commeon man $5000 or more but as i've told many other people i spent a fair bit of time doing my homework and chasing the good deals even if it delayed my start time of the conversion, and it has paid dividends as far as cash in the pocket goes.
