Probably a stupid question.Does the Redarc switch over to the aux battery only when the ignition is turned off?If the engine is not running but ignition on is is the power still coming from the start battery?
If so would I have to wire my stereo straight to the aux battery if I wanted to use it whilst camping?
Cheers

You will need to wire things like your stereo, fridge, etc to the aux. battery if you want to be able to run them without risking your ability to start your car from the main battery later.
Basically what the unit does is allow the aux battery to drain without drawing on the main battery, but whatever you hook into you "real" wiring, like the original stereo wiring, will still drain the main battery because the redarc unit is not in between.

This is not legal advice.
Ok just went down to Jaycar bought a whole lot of stuff and wired everything to my aux battery.
Also If I am running something off the ciggy lighter when stopped is this running off the aux or main?I'm not much of an auto electrician as you can probably tell.
cheers
If the ignition is off but I have headlights on are they running off the aux?Probably not aye.I wired my spotties to the aux battery too.chimpboy wrote: Basically what the unit does is allow the aux battery to drain without drawing on the main battery, but whatever you hook into you "real" wiring, like the original stereo wiring, will still drain the main battery because the redarc unit is not in between.

To simplify what chimpboy wrote (if I can at all) is that anything you don't wire to your aux battery will drain your main battery with ignition off. Everything in your car is wired to 1 battery except things you re-wire or add later onto your Aux battery.
Ciggy lighter is originally wired to your main battery, although if you are running stuff off it while parked you may want to consider rewiring or (preferably) running new power outlets from your Aux battery.

when ya crankin battery is full the redarc thingie bob opens like a reply lettin power from ur cranking battery to ur aux battery when ur cranking battery gets to a certain voltage the redarc shuts off and the alt will only charge ur cranking battery
dont look at it like the redarc switchs the active alt power direct to ur aux battery
everything after market like spotlights cd players uhf fridges etc should all be connected via a fuse box and fuse box connected to the aux battery on the redarc thingie bobs if your voltage in low in ur cranking battery u can do and over ride thing so u can use both batterys to start up
im not the best on explainin things via text happy to talk ya though it just pm if u like
i will make a digram on how it should be set up and how it works soon
cheers justin
