How much did LPG conversion cost?
How much did LPG conversion cost?
Hey all I'm currently looking at converting my 1989 SWB Ford Mav from petrol into LPG. Just wondering how much people paid for their conversions. Also if anyone in Sydney knows a good place.

josh, with the rebate, expect to pay $4000 or more, also expect a long wait as Holden and Ford bought all the tanks in stock and APM and the other tank mnob are flooded, my guy says up to 8 weeks then see if we have any tanks plenty dodgyes selling second hand jobs, and we cant use europeon tanks as they use 1mm thiner steel than we are alowed to use in aus
If the above post did not offend you in any way please PM me so I can try harder!!
I paid about $1200 - $1400 about 8yrs ago when gas was 27c/L on a bad day.
So what's it cost now? around $3000 less $1000 from Johnny = $2000 Not too bad
Off the topic - does anyone KNOW (not guesses please) if Johnny will kick in anything to add a second tank to existing setup? Also does anyone know where i might be able to find a safe but cheap 2nd hand tank from?

you get 2000 regardless of cost and you can use a 2nd hand system and still get the 2 grand as long as a aproved fitter signs off on the conversion. see http://www.ausindustry.gov.au/content/l ... B2423F9DA6
Cost is going to vary according to a couple of factors.
LPG tank inside cabin is way cheaper, since most places were telling me the aftermarket petrol tank for the shorty is about $1100. I thought of sourcing or making my own, but I found a place who offered $3k inclusive of that tank.
The lowest quote i got was $2600 straight gas or a small gas tank in the back. But...... not much space in a shorty with a tank inside with the dogs and 4by gear...
I got a deal of $3k within about 2 days of the quote and some places had already ramped up by about $1000.
I was told an 8 week wait, but many places said they couldnt do it until mid next year......
If it's a problem to source an LPG tank then I may consider getting them to reuse my old LPG kit. I probably should load it all in the car tonight since I was gonna drop in tomorrow ofr a check in.
Failing that I guess I'll sell that and get some of my money back. After I'm installed I'll let people know.

Just got mine converted 1990 GQ auto tb42s and cost me $2695 for dual fuel 92l gas and 60l petrol. runs good had to advance timing to 20* to get decent performance back. No pinging on petrol either but I run BP ultimate in the fuel tank. the place was Premier Auto Centre in Mt Druitt and there NRMA approved and there Work is good quality. Got a qoute for my other car Ford XR8 the price hasn't increased but the waiting list is till June 2007. Highly recommend them though.

be careful mounting tank inside cab, young guy a work did this and the rear body mounts are destroyed due to the extra weight of the tank.Beastmavster wrote:Cost is going to vary according to a couple of factors.

I was fortunate to convert mine before the petrol boom ! Was less than a grand all up. But I purchased all the gear off eBay and had it fitted at The Gas Man in Sydney.
It seems even with this new rebate people will still be out of pocket similar amounts for a new LPG setup Someone is making money out of this, and it aint the little guy

I'm considering converting my dual fuel GQ wagon to straight gas running twin gas tanks. Would anyone be interested in dual fuel petrol tank to suit GQ wagon as it would help keep costs down.
