gemini 5speed gearbox behind 1324cc sierra
gemini 5speed gearbox behind 1324cc sierra
Is there anyone out there who has done this conversion , or know 's how close they would be to lining up.also what difference in gearing .Any view's on this conversion would be appreciated. Is there any more on this subject in previous posts.
Indeed, why is a gemini 5 speed better than a suzuki 5 speed?
I'm not aware of any real weakness in the suzuki box, and they are available 2nd hand.

sorry elado, but really, who cares? Not many people have actually broken sierra gearboxes. Sure, they wear a bit, but the newest sierra gearbox is about '98. What's the newest gemini box? 84?
By the time you resolved adapter plate, starter, overall length, output shaft length, mount, tunnel clearance, clutch actuation, flywheel, starter motor location & engagement, the Gemini box couldn't possibly be good enough to warrant the work.
Gemini's had relatively little more power and no more weight than a sierra stock. They are unlikely to have a lower 1st gear (sierra - 3.65:1)
I really can't see an advantage. I fyou have a shed full of gemini boxes and a broken sierra box, sell the gem boxes on Ebay and buy a god used sierra box.
Steve.

I got the info from this site http://www.suzuki-samurai.nl/volvo/volvo-eng.html
I thought that's what you might be trying to do (the volvo thing).
Yes it would be possible, and depending on how you speak to it might be cool. But by the time you stuff around adapting the gemini box to the G13 as well as the volvo box to the gemi box, it will be cheaper and most definitly easier to just to throw a set of gears in the standard transfer case.
I am trying to think of some positives for doing what you propose, but I can't. If you want to do it just to be different, hey knock yourself out.

Thats a 1.0 litre zook, which have a much shorter 4 speed gearbox than the 1.3's 5 speed is. Maybe you need an old 1.o litre zook, not a Maruti tho, as they are longer boxes. Or a Lwb for extra room.
A dude in our club had a swb 1.0litre zook with a Gemini deisel and box fitted, and there was not a lot of room left to connect it to the transfer box, without moving the t-case.
I believe you'd be better off to use the entire motor and box from any car with a short enuff box for ya need, less hassle.

Think about that. If you fit say Calmini 5.14 gears, you get much lower low range at around 127%, and about 18% high range reduction. BUT why would you fit the gears in the first place - to regain crawl with larger tyres. So, the high range reduction allows you keep resonable performance with these larger tyres on the blacktop.
Where is the issue with having your high range corrected for your larger tyres to regain normal (for a zook) road revs vs vehicle speed.

A Gemini box is close on unburstable, 1.6, 1.8 all the way up to the 2.6 litre rodeo motor is the same internals. and there are plenty out there with serious power being put through them and still living a long happy life.
Now the logistics of the install may be a bit more difficult with quite a few custom parts .. once it's done and you get all the angels etc right .. it should be pretty good ..
Remember to beef up all the mounts etc .. and give us progress reports

5th gear in the gemini box is not real strong. 5th gear is an add on to the 4speed box from the 70's.
We use to break a circlip. But it was behind a turbo motor. So prob' wont be cause you any trouble.
Good luck, hope it works out for you.
