Helping a mate buy a hilux.
I no my prices well on cruisers but when it comes to hiluxes I would not have a clue
He is looking to spend $10,000 - $14,000 and is after a duel cab diesel.
We just got back from looking at one which was a 96 model 2.8 diesel with 210 on the clock and wanted 13,600. This seemed like a fair bit to me for a 9 year old Hilux.
It looked fairly tidy but the guy seemed very dogy. would not let us take it for inspection even if we paid full price and for the inspection. It was also unregistered.
Anyway what should we expect to get for around 12 - 13grand
He is not after an off road weapon but something that is reliable and able to go for a cruise up the beach from time to time.
Very much appreciate any help all you hilux owners.

I was flat out getting offered 8 for mine a few months back when i was going to upgrade. 90 model dual cab, steel tray, 31in muddies, turbo diesel, 245k list of new stuff as long as your arm and only two little oil leaks. I think high and mighty had his on ebay and here and it didnt sell at even less than that.
Piad 10 for mine which was a steel for the stuff that had been done but its a 94 single cab tray back and they were all around that mark. Try http://www.redbookasiapacific.com/au/ also look around various car sale sites. One very imoprtaint thing to do is rev's and wovr (written off vehicle register) He may have been trying to hide something maybe a previous roll over
plenty of parts on the bench
There was one on the side of the road for about that and it had already been modified suspention body 35s no lockers or diff breathers it was neat and tidy to I would keep looking I think dirtyharry may be selling his rig witch has all of the above plus its locked dont quote me on it though
If you dont have panel damage you ain't trying hard enough
if you want a cost variation its just looking the trading post up here is a quick one i just done trading post that was was for Qld and this one NSW the price differences are huge NSW trading post

I know there are places I can look up prices.whiteknight wrote:bruiser,
its not that hard mate - check out tradingpost.com.au, redbook, carsales.com.au and see what the general prices are..
You will find that they probably differ somewhat between states as well..
The main idea of this thred is to see what people who have bought hilux's latley have paid and what sort of car they got for there money.
You can't tell a lot just by looking at a price in the post and reading the sellers description
I recently upgraded my dual cab Hilux from a 92 LN106, white, sunraysias, snorkel, alloy tray, 250km, fair condition sold for $11K after spending a lot on it, and $2K for roadworthy - to a 97 LN106 with 90km, perfect condition, canopy, wheels, UHF, etc for close to $17K.
This is about the two ends of the scale, I was tired of fixing the old one and throwing money at mods that weren't going to be mine for ever, where as now the new one is a keeper and I dont mind spending cash on it for maintenance and mods.
I am happy the way I did it, as I sort of got all the deep mud / beach work / hard core out of my system with the old one as it was my first real 4by - now I try to avoid those conditions in the interests of longevity, mostly. . .
