Internal beadlocks
Jus picked up some 36" simex with internal beadlocks.
Can someone explain this...
1. What presure should i run in the beadlocks?
2. To remove the tire do i let the air from the tire out first then the beadlocks? or vise versa
3. And to put the tire back on, put the internal lock on, but dont inflate it. Put the tire on, then what do i fill with air first... beadlock or tire?

1 The bead locks should be run at aleast 5psi above your tyre presure but I usually run mine about 10psi above just to be sure.justinshere wrote:Jus picked up some 36" simex with internal beadlocks.

2. It doesn't really matter I don't think. I'd just let the tyre down first.
3. You put the interal bead locker in but don't put air in it yet. Make sure the bead lock wont get pinched by your bead than fill the tyre with air until your bead is seated. Once the bead is seated let the tyre back down and pump up the interal bead locker to about 20psi. Then pump your tyre up to whatever presure you like then pump your bead locker up about 5 to 10 psi above it.
You may have to re adjust your tyres pressures again after this because when you pump the bead lockers up it increases your tyre presure a little as well.

Information I was given (from Procomp, Narre Warren) was to run the beadlocks at 40-45 psi regardless of the tyre pressure you are running. Running you beadlocks at 25 psi and tyres at 20 psi isn't going to stop you bumping off a bead as you only need 25 psi to do it. Running 45 psi and down to 15 psi in the tyres is more than feasable if you want, and will hold the bead a hell of a lot more securely.
The original instructions were to do as Mick wrote above, but there were issues with the bead not being held securely enough with low beadlock pressures and allowing the tyre to rotate on the rim, dragging the internal beadlock with it. This caused the beadlock tube to tear at the valve. AFAIK the instructions for use were changed a while ago (2 yrs???)

Be extra carefull fitting the little tabs that hold the BL off your tyre valve.
When I had mine fitted (by tyre guys that had never done them before) 1 of the 4 tyres they must have not got the tabs in the right place and you cant let any air out of the tyre without first letting down the BL a bit.

They only charged me $50 to remove one fix a 2inch tear in a sidewall & refit last time I took one their. All other places I tryed wanted to charge an hourly rate to fit because they can take a while to fit if you haven't done it before.
The first time I went there (took my instructions) they spent about 3 hours trying to refit one but i've stuffed that many tyres since that they have got it down to a fine art now.

The guys were very curious as to how they worked and said as long as I drill the holes they would fit.
I found out about these guys from Hophoar a while back when I slashed a tyre. They now have a copy of my instructions and they fix & fit them for me. The only problem is they can not balance tyres over 35s so than I have to take them to tyre plus to balance them.
